Lots of good info, lots of breeds suggested. I think Miss Wiggle will have to take a look at the dogs in her local rescue centre to get an idea of what they are like, then go to a website, type in preferences, and se what results come up.

Ahhh Fen - wonderfully said!! Ive read this whole post and i almost feel bad for miss wiggle. You can't ask a forum this big what a good dog is because as stated everyone has a different opinion. Having worked at a vet clinic for 3 years and taught dog training classes for 5, I see some of these "get a..." and cringe!
Miss Wiggle - it's best to do your own research, especially with your special needs of a bad back and little exercise during the week. Maybe the best bet for you is to adopt a dog that is a little bit older.
