Do You Have A Common Pleco?

No because I had just clipped my nails so my nails weren't sharp and couldn't hurt him. Yeah I noticed when my pleco gets stressed he gets all blotchy. What is a colander?

I don't advise using a net to catch any descent size plec as there just going to get caught up in it. just pin them down by grabbing there pectoral fins take hold and lift out in to a bag to aclimatize to new tank, or if temp in the same move from 1 tank to another whilst still in hand.

This is very easy to do and only becomes a struggle when your dealing with 15" + plecs, as I found out the other week when catching one.

Have fun!

Just watch their fins if you are doing this the first time... they are sharp and they know how to use them in defense :X ouch

What do they do? Do they start thrashing and jumping around?

I still go by the advice I got from Shotgate with plecs (and doradids, now there are some spines...).

If you stick your fingers onto a plecs belly and push your thumb onto the "forehead" area (just anterior of the dorsal fin). If you squeeze gently the fish will tense all its fins out and the body will go rigid, allowing you to place the fish where you want. Just be careful they don't clamp the pectorals on your fingers...

A colander is a bowl with holes in made of plastic or metal and with small handles on each side. You use it to drain pasta/veggies/salad. I actually keep potatoes in mine (to let air get around them)! I have been told a few ways now on how to catch the pleco so I will have to decide on one and go for it. I don't like picking up small creatures. I picked up a toad once and I was worried I might squish it. :) I am more worried about harming the fish than being spiked by it, although if it happened I would have to get medical attention as I am diabetic.
