Do you give your fish names?

I had a breeding pair of cichl....
 good one!

I don't really name my fish, except the one in my sig I named "Sunshine" becuase at the time she was the only fish in a 20g tank. So it was the only fish I'd watch so I don't know I just said "hey Sunshine" kindof talking to it, but it's not like I talk to my fish or anything. Then I figured the name was appropriate becuase of the color of her tail. So the name stuck, at least until she died. But she had two fry which I named Rosencranz and Guildenstern. But I don't call them that, again I don't really talk to my fish, and if I do it's more like "fish, here's some food" or something like that.

So when you look at your fish dont you long to know their name? Thats hoiw it is for me....But most of the time, I just glance at them to make sure all is well, and alive in the tank.

The ones that are named are:

She Devil: A female Betta, she is quite the dominant one.
Little Emerald: A female Betta, same tank.
Stress Out Girl: The third female Betta in that community.

Butterfly Original occupant of my divided Betta tank.
Jazz The new guy in the divided Betta tank.

Mr Personality A male betta who resides in my hubby's big community tank.

Purple Maurader A male betta who resides in a solitary temple for the sake of fishkind.

Hannah I almost forgot, my daughter named her latest betta boy hannah. Don't ask!!

See a pattern? It seems my Bettas have the personalities and get named.

Others are named according to type, distinguishing features.
Platinum (platinum gourami girl), Big Boy (RTBS, the big one), Sparklers (collective for my 6 sparkling gouramis), The Other Big Boy (huge 3 spot gourami), the chocs (chocolate gouramis), little red (the reddest guppy boy I ever seen - and I bred him!), the girls (3 female guppy's that are little red's), the cocks (peacock dwarf cichlids), lyre (beautiful lyre tail swordie girl), Serial Killer (a big gold angel who may be responsible for the death of many a tank mate before we realised it was him - when he was really young!).

Lots more that don't have names yet/or will not ever have names probably. We have named others who have passed on and meant something to us as well.

I name my fish - but as and when inspiration strikes. :hey: So some will go nameless for a while until I decide on one. I'm a bit superstitious too - new fish don't get named straight away until I know they' re fine. So far I have:

Clarence my angelfish, from "It's a wonderful life" film
Punch Adolfi Cory, as in "thats the way to do it!!"
Hoover and Dyson Polka dot loaches, names speak for themselves
Abbot and Costello Apple snails
Zorro my masked betta
Gloria surviving black molly fry, now 3 inch monster
Lemmy clown plec, ugly but strangely attractive
Iggy and Ziggy sunset platies with lovely psychadelic pattern to their dorsals

And some more names still to come...........

Not to mention when you've kept fish for a number of years you run out of names pretty quick ;)

Bnose catfish male : Dyson (vacuum cleaner brand :p)
Bnose catfish female : electra (vacuum cleaner brand is Electrolux :p)

Male bettas : Thor and Thunder

Whiteskirt tetra : Angel

Male electric yellow : Grumpy

Loaches : Ike, Spike and Dyke :p

I don't name the platies or swordies since I have too many of them.

I named all my fish, and since I'm bored, I shall bring up the list again :flex:
My fish:
Gourmi:
Edmand Fitz(The biggest) (I have a model of the Edmand Fitzgearold on top of my tank)
Zoomba (The Darkest) (Somehow Brown and Zoomba Just seem to go together)
Bella Boo (The most intimadated) (She likes to hide. Your lucky if you see her one time a month)
Flame (The reddest) (He has the most color difference through his body)

Zebra Danios:
Loner (The smallest) (He likes to go oyut and look around; But doesnt like the other danios)
Sunseeker (The biggest danio)(He likes to boss others, even larger than him)
Jane (she likes to doge others around)

Tiger Barbs:
Phesic (the biggest fish thats not a gorumi)
Lily (Thinks she's bigger than she really is)

Phantoms:
Phantom (Is really small. He likes to hang around Phesic)
:dunno:

I only name the fish that are most precious to me...
Sunny-Gold severum
Homer-Uaru (Avatar)
Little Mo (After big mo :rip:)-Mogurnda clivicola, Purple spotted gudgeon (Sig)
:)

My marbled gobies: Pheonix (cause that's where I bought it) so the other is Mojave because I got it local.

2 of the bichirs one Little Girl and one Stubby (poor guy got picked on by the bichir with no name before I got little girl and is smaller from recovering from fin loss just started coming back out)

The goldfish in the community is that Darn (substitute stronger language) carp...or...that darn thing is chasing my gouramis again...

And that's about it without going to the pond fish out of about 80 fish....the 11 koi have names and about 15 goldies are named (they came before they reproduced lol).
