Do You Ever Get Fed Up With Cleaning Your Tank?

GET A HOSE PEOPLE!

It's one of those things you think you don't need, but once you've got one you wonder how you ever did without it.
I have a hose. Now, what do I do with it? I cannot add dechlorinator to fill the whole 76L volume, I'd use it up fast and Romania doesn't have Seachem Prime.
I only have one water switch so the water temp will be set according to the position of the dial.

Only way I could see the hose working in my case is if I drag it into my bedroom and fill a 10L bottle, then pour it into the tank, saving me the trip from bedroom to bathroom or kitchen. But I'd still need to run back and forth to stop the water at the sink. o_O

all my smaller tanks were filled with plants just from my main tank.
Can you not take smaller plants and cuttings from your other tanks?
You can even leave the plastic ones and the gravel in until the new plants develop a bit.

I enjoy cleaning the tank I find it relaxing.
I spend 2hrs every Tuesday afternoon on the tank.
Its very rewarding to see the sparkling clean glass and tidy pruned plants especially when you have OCD and the slightest water mark or uprooted plant grates on you ;)

Yeahh, it gets too much for me sometimes too. Especially when I'm spilling all over the place and having to suck tubes to siphon. A mouth full of tank water doesn't usually go down well...

Water changes have taken over my life outside work for the last three or four months, with having three tanks on the go containing the youngsters of some of my fish (2 generations of Lionhead Cichlids in different tanks, ~29 Ilyodon xantusi fry 3 weeks to three months old), While its great to see these youngsters growing, part of me cannot wait for the Lionheads especially to reach a size whree my LFS will buy them from me, enabling my to decomission two tanks!

We've got two fifteen litre graduated buckets that I bought from a local homebrew store - each come with a lid.
So carrying fifteen litres of freshwater to replenish the tank and carting away fifteen litres of foul water to the loo isn't a problem.
Have fitted the lid to the bucket means that the bucket retains its round shape and no water gets spilt on the floor.
The downside is that they cost £6.99 each.

As for syphoning water, I bought one of those syphons that has a squeezy bulb on the end - no more drinking the fishwater for me - clean or otherwise :hyper: :hyper:

Regards

David

If you can't find one there have a look at Swallow Aquatics site. I got mine from their retail outlet near Colchester in Essex.

What about this?

Or a bit too cheap and tacky?

My dad said he will get me a 10 L bucket soon. Too bad not soon enough for tomorrow's tank cleaning. The whole tank needs to be moved from one table to another while its table is going to be covered in some wood-looking sticker that my mom insists on putting there (fashion lover... -.-). This means I'll have to store some of the old tank water in some bottles and replace 30L with fresh water. My poor plants and fish... they'll be stressed out by the lowering of water level during the operation :(

Side question: Why do so many people on at least two forums so far keep signing themselves after every post? o_O It's a question that has been lingering in my mind for so long but I never got to ask it.

Yeah -.- And I've asked her before I actually set the tank up: "Do you want to put anything on the table?"
She was like "I don't have anything."
So I put the tank, set it up about a month ago. Now I wake up with her spazzing about the table looking too annoying because it's green and my room has a lot of blue and light brown. She even got dad to buy the stickers...
Tomorrow it's going to be a looooooooong day... I hope dad doesn't break my tank, cause that's going to come out of his salary. I paid 80% of my salary to get it, the other 20% was spent on fish food and dechlorinator. -.-

o_O odd.

I know a lot of people picked up that habit in the very early days of the internet on old Usenet groups when you didn't have any avatars or anything like that; hardcore really, lol!

Sounds like you're in a similar situation as me with your parents holding the hobby back for you ;)
It's the other way round for me though ahahh, they paid 100% of the price for my tank (£225) and for fish then I pay for the food, chems and what not

I don't have a job though, I'm a poor college student

Yeah, it started with being supported by my parents after my friend gave me the 40L tank, my mom taught me some stuff about fish keeping (although not the stuff I really needed to know, as she never had filters in her tanks and had a huge pile of guppies, angelfish, swordtails and platies before I got my tank, I never got to see those fish of hers though, I wasn't even born then) while dad bought me food, a filter and stuff, and fish (that he chose, and only kind of fish I liked from his choices are the hoplos).

But then I started with repairing computers occasionally or doing hardware / software installation or sometimes virus removal. With that money I've bought some swordtails first, then I got into this current unofficial job for a friend, which involves creating / managing a website for his computer shop online and repairing computers + studying rival stores' marketing. That's how I managed to get the 20 gal tank. My mom was a bit against the idea but I pulled the "I got the money, you don't pay for anything anyway." bit and convinced her.

I'm not even a college student (I should be, but getting into the college I want isn't going to be easy). I'd rather work to be honest, if only finding jobs here was not this hard. Everyone's firing, and who is hiring is expecting some pros. What about us newbs? -.-

Thank you for the explanation. X)
