Choosing to eat meat or not is a personal choose just as is how we dress, what religious denomination we are or what political party we support.

wait a minute... they told me I had to be wearing khaki pants in order to post here? I've been changing 12 times a day for nothing???!??!?!

I haven't eaten fish since I started keeping them.

Then again, around the time I started keeping fish I began dating my current b/f who is fatally allergic to seafood. I've found it easier to just avoid fish restaurants all together because of that.

Tell me, then, howcome it is that vegetarians (at least the ones that i've been in the company of when eating) don't see problems with eating fish in general - and tuna?

And why can Catholics eat fish but no "meat" meat during lent on fridays??
I'm confused.

(I have a feeling that the catholic comment is gonna open a big ol' can of worms)

The poor girl who sits next to me in the office - I just went over and had a conversation with her about catholics, and where she gets off eating fish on fridays at lent, but no other meat. LOL

There are many common definitions of "vegetarian"

When I called myself one I ate no meat (including no fish and no eggs) but would happily drink milk and eat cheese. To some... this is fanatical because I didn't do fish and eggs... to others I was a poser because I did drink milk and eat cheese...

It all boils down to a personal choice of what you wish to consume. Also there are many different motives to restrict your diet to suit one of the definitions of 'vegetarian'.

I think it's a wonderful sign when a person makes personal choices that make their life a little more inconvenient for a higher purpose. Then again I find it completely ignorant to watch people put themselves on a pedestal for their morality... kind of kills any trace of humility they pretended to have.

I feel kind of free to speak on this particular topic because I have been happily and non aggressively seated on both sides of the fence...

But I'm still hoping like anything that this doesn't become a moral debate/bashing thread.

Also... just for the record... when a vegetarian says "eating meat is disgusting" it is just as rude and offensive for a meat eating person to say "being a vegetarian is stupid". I hope we can find reasons to show respect to each other here... and if there is that one person you just cannot respect... show the members as a whole respect by not being rude...

Just tryin to keep the peace man!

I've got nothing against being a vegetarian or vegan or out and out carnivore, but there are two things which irritate me:

1) When veggies force they're diets on their children (especially younger ones) and miss out on vital healthy things that they need. I see a lot of unhealthy pale vegetarian kids. I'm not saying it's a bad thing as long as you find replacements for the vitamins and stuff they don't get, but more often than not there are no replacements. We have evolved to eat meat - that is a fact.

2) When people insiste they are a "vegetaria who eats fish and chicken". That really annoys me.

I don't mean any offence to anyone, I think people are entitled to their own views, but it irks me when they try to force them on other people.

Hi everyone :)

I have to ask you all to stay on topic on this one, even though it might be hard to do. It's only fair to supersam who started it.

Ordinarily, I would suggest that you start a topic in General Talk to discuss this, but unfortunately, I can't do that right now. But I can suggest that you be patient and wait until we get things sorted out and open GT again. Vegetarian vs carnivore is always an interesting topic since we have many members who can provide insights into the benefits of both kinds of diets. :D

i'd suicide if i was fatally allergic to seafood... i can't get enough of the stuff!!

i think i could eat the entire contents of a sushi bar in one go. so yummy.

i'm so glad to see this topic; i had been wanting to ask pretty much since the day they closed down GC...

oh, and the line "i'm a vegetarian that only eats fish and chicken" just cracked me up!

I started to be a vegetarian since yesterday. :p I just want to try the "other side" Plus, the only meat I liked anyway was chicken. I used to LOVE fish, but whenever I ate it, I would think of one of my bettas or my goldy or something and I would feel guilty.

So far I have been fine without meat. I won't eat eggs either. The thing I don't understand is why vegetarians don't drink milk or eat cheese. It isn't like they are killing the cow to get it's milk. :dunno:

I had a glass of milk today. Makes the bones strong. :D

No, as i'm a veggie been a veggie for 14 years now and i don't eat any meat, meat by products or fish and i'm very strict about what i eat i do have milk though and i have veggie cheese :)

yep i eat fish, not as keen as a used to be but i eat it.

i would like to add although it's not much of a change the chicken farmers clip the end of the beak so there's no point as opposed to ripping the thing out.
