Well this is my first time ever attempting anything like this ! so hopefully you'll be able to understand me as i don't know the correct terms for everything ! lol

So first off the tank's dimensions are 48"Lx15"Wx30"H. It's a home built tank that my other half done so there is no attachments for lighting in the hood. I have no idea what wattage i need to penetrate the bottom of the tank but theses are my 2 idea's on what i can do

Idea 1 is too have 2 18" T8 Bulbs on either side attached to the hood itself if i go for a longer bulb i won't be able to attach it there and would prob mean having to build a new hood. My plan is to have a bulb to promote the fish colours and one to promote plant growth on each side running each side on an Double Arcadia ULTRA SEAL controller.

Idea 2 is to have 2 36" T8 Bulbs running the full length of the tank again one to promote fish colours and the other to promote plant growth. This would mean only 1 Double Arcadia ULTRA SEAL controller .

I've included a diagram incase i didn't explain it all very well .

Which one would you personally use ?
Which wattage of bulb am i looking at for each Idea?
Are Reflector's a nessecity ?

Hopefully someone can help me out

:D

There's Condensationg tray's already on tank . There's never been any problem with water reaching the hood Ie Warping etc so fairly confident that the light fixtures will be safe

:D

it's going to be tropical . Nothing high tech just need bulbs to promote there growth ! lol Think i'm going to go for the 2 36" route heading to LFS in 15 min so going to pick up a bulb .starter etc see how it look's. Can always return for an exchange if it looks pants lol
