Discus.

i wanted a good looking tank.
I aint just gonna have a crappy looking thing so i can keep these fish.
Altho they are prob the best looking fish i have seen....
Do I need some more? is that why they hide? i only have 2
I have spent to much money on their tank to just throw it away.

Yes that is probably ONE reason they hide, as well as others given in this post, try reading through the posts again. How big is the tank anyway?

too small, you need atleast 5 in a 55 gal,

sorry dude :X

I had my 5 discus (4 1/2" - 5" in size) in a planted tank for 8 months. Over this time the plants went downhill, heat and waste from the fish. I gravel vac and did water changes twice a week. It was not enough to keep up with the fish.
I set up a bare bottom tank for my breeding pair and sold the others.
Your tank does not have to look like crap to keep discus. I was very reluctant to go bare bottom. Putting a nice big piece of driftwood and Java Fern attacked to it or rocks, terra cotta pots will make it look better.

I had my 5 in a 40 gallon tank with a canister filter and a fluidized bed. Now I keep my breeding pair in a barebottom 29 gallon.

What DD was stating is that it is best to keep 4-6 discus in a tank together. 2 if not a pair can lead to trouble as the dominate fish will always pick on the other. With more discus in the tank the dominate fish can spread out its aggression.

i just dont wanna go spend another $120 on fish that sit in a corner all day.
how long do they take to grow?

What else do you have in the tank with them

my honest advice is that you probably jumped in a little too soon, i would return them to the shop and then plan a nice discus tank for the future

23 gallon is just too small im afraid, they dotn do well in small tanks

Yeh i agree you should def get rid of them - they are too hard for you to look after. I would stick to the community set up if i was you as you can have success with that even if you dont know what your doing!
