can anyone tell me what tank mates discus can have, i have never bothered with them before, but just wondered, as i have seen things like neons, rummy noses, cory's etc in tanks with them, what family does the discus come from too?

thanks

scott

i think most bottom dwellers will be fine. small fish may be eaten. the disus come from the amazon so most big, none aggressive fish from the same place i would have thought will be fine with them

you can actually keep plecos with discus. im not arguing but aslong as the plec has suffcient food. then it wont try and stick to the discus for its slimecoat. just dont get commons gibbies or sailfins. i have kept and keeping L260 and Bristlenose's with my discus.

I kept plecs (and otos) with discus without any problems though I have heard other peoples' horror stories. Anyway - I don't keep these fish any more but I just wanted to say that the 'neons' you see with discus are (hopefuly anyway) cardinals. Discus like high temperatures - neons are not tolerant of these (and will also eventualy become food :p).

Sterbai cories as they can live happily in the higher temps discus usually are kept at :good:
Compared to other corys who look it a little cooler, Also shoals of cardinal tetras look very nice

I have hatchet fish, chequerboards, rams, corydoras, black neons, lemon tetras, corydoras, snowball plec and a green phantom plec with mine, no worries.

yes quite right Shawn and rummy nose will be the first to let you know if your water parameters are not right by there colour.

So I've heard.

I'm assuming that all the time the water quality is good that their colouration is nice and bright, and if the water quality slips then their colouration fades(?) accordingly.

Is this the correct assumption?

I currently have 18 and am thinking of increasing their number when finances permit as they look great in largish numbers and for some reason seen to escape the attention of the Discus, unlike the cardinals I started with that seemed to vanish over the course of several nights!
