erm few questions bet they have been asked befor but...

for a shoal 5+ yeah or no?
tank mates what fish can go with discus really want to keep my clowns, ram, black shark

does any one know of any breeders in the midlands area?

5+ yes.

Rams yes, personally I wouldn't have Clown Loaches in the tank, in my experience they can be kinda skittish and active. The same could possibly be true of the Black shark, but I've no experience of those.

A lot depends on the tank size though...

Hi im new here but i'll give you my two pence worth, I would say 4 min ( I have 4 in my Trigon) 10 gallons per fish is a good rule, cardinals make good tank mates as they can stand the warmer water discus like, cardinals also look the business, corrys seem to be fine and help keep the bottom clean as discus are absolute pigs when it comes to feed time, I also have some rummynose which the discus don't seem to mind.

they will be in my 75 gallon tank,
do the discus have to be the same for a shoal?

just doin my reasearch now coz after christmas i want a discus tank

I picked 2 from one tank two from another, they seem to get on ok, occasionally they'll chase each other and one is definatley more shy than the others, I have had them for nearly a year now, they have grown about 2" and look really happy and eat really well. I would recommend a fish shop that stocks/specialises in discus as you get a good selection to choose from also maybe woth getting a RO filter as they prefer the softer water. I have had eggs also but as of yet no babies they look after them for a while and get bored and eat them, but this is normal they may mature and become good parents or they may not, they are gret fish to keep and look great in the tank.
PS added a piccy in the planted tank section.

i ment the same type of discus

No can be different types, I've seen speckled with pinkish colour ones in the same tank

I have been developing a Discus tank for the last 5 months. The Discus (5-6 wild browns) are coming in January. I have been aclimatising the tank in terms of water, plants & fish. The ph is 6.6 & the KH is 5, running at a constant 30 degrees. Over the last three monthe I have been progressively adding fish. 12 Black phantom tetras, followed by 3 Bristlenoses & 3 Peppered Cory's. Then a Clown loach (sorting out a snail prob & back to the LFS in December), and recently a pair of Czech Rams, a pair of Dwarf Cockatoo's and finally 3 Oto's.

All of the fish are thriving and getting along in terms of tank mates & living in, what is to some of them a warm tank. I did start at 27 degress and graudually turn it up to 30 over a three month period. By doing it slowly and keeping fish from broadly the same region, it seems to be working so far. The acid test of course is when the Discus arrive!

Theres no problem with mixing discus, although I would advise getting them all from the same place so you know they have all been dewormed etc at the same time.
Discus water is too hot for pepper corys and ottos, the only corys it is advised to have in a hot tank like discus is C.adolphi, duplicarus, sterbai, gossei , suessi and maybe agazissi. If you add/have fish that prefer cooler water, they will age quicker and hence, die quicker

hopefully my discus fish will arrive today tank is allready slowly have been raising the temp to 30deg and ph is now 6.8.same stats as where my discus is coming from....

pics soon
