For all you Discus owners out there is it essential to have an ro unit for Discus? I have had a Discus before in treated tap water and he seemed healthy although he died because my Gourami was nipping him to death. Is there anyone that has successfully kept Discus in treated tap water? My stats are:
Ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
ph 7
Is it normal for me to always have 0 nitrates?
Tank is well established nearly a year now.

plenty of people do sucseffully keep discus without RO, some swear by it. I think one of the main points to consider is how good your tap water is in the first place.

Yes, its possible, where do you live and whats the kh and gh? do you also know the TDS?

"I have had a Discus before" best in a group of 4 or more.

Yes they can I think one issue is where you get the discus from, I got mine from Maidenhead aquatics and they specialise in discus so they are used to RO water so I decided to go down the RO route, but before i got my RO unit they were in my tank which was tap water with Co2. As long as the water params arn't to far off im sure they'll be fine.

Where can i get a test kit for gh and kh? And what is TDS. Sorry i sound like a newbie and im not really lol.
