Discus-and other fish

Cycling involves bacteria to break down fish waste, that is what cycling is in a nutshell. If you have never cycled a tank, and have had no problems with it, congratulations, you are a very lucky person.

pH is basically whether the water is acidic or alkaline. Period. You can have a pH of 8 and have excellent water quality, or you can have a pH of 5 and also have excellent water quality.

As previously mentioned, discus PREFER a soft and acidic pH, but it is not an absolute must. Anyway, good to hear that you are listening to our advice. And to the rest of you guys, remember, all we can do is give advice, it is the person who is asking's choice whether to accept it or not.

As i said i didnt mean to be rude, and i understand people were only giving me advice. And im not going to get discus.... in this tank at least. And as for the tests as i've only ever done ph tets im not sure of the other important ones. Are the nitrate, nitrite and ammonia? If so i can get.
seriously jaded attitude :/
Its always good to have those test. You should just go ahead n buy the Master test kit. Since u have never successfully cycled a tank u need to be aware of the ammonia and nitrate levels. If they are constantly at 0 ppm u are good to go n should not have any problems from these 2 categories.
