Delusions Of Grandeur - Planted 180L

Second thoughts, it might be a good idea to document visually their improvement in colour if any...

Merry Christmas!

You may need to bump up the nitrate a bit, if not sooner, then definitely later as the plants get larger, they will doubtlessly need more nitrogen.

It looks absolutely fabulous and can't wait to see it.  What tetras did you end up getting?

Definitely. The trick or rather the aim is to have enough nitrate for the but no excess as I believe strongly that excess nitrate is pretty much been in the mix when it comes to algae and me. If I eliminate it as an ingredient/composition of such and such an algae then I'm in good standing. If that makes sense...

They are not rosy lol I have a thread in the tropical discussion section. So far I've found twenty plus names for them which made finding them a chore. These are Hyphessobrycon Bentosi and Rosy tetras are Hyphessobrycon rosaceus very confusing trying to seperate one from the next when calling my lfs'

Yeah, I saw that thread and I saw that as well... but honestly, these look exactly like my 'rosy' tetras. :p  Unless my Petsmart is constantly mislabeling them, which is possible, but if that's the case, I am getting them at about 10% of the price of the 'Candy Cane' Tetras.

Ok so 10 days in and the progress so far appears steady but much too slow for the impatient hobbyist. I have managed to keep nitrate at 0ppm which above all else was my main goal but I'm going to be adjusting the lighting from 6 - 7 hours. I bought some extra iron salts and may start adding extra iron but I/m not quite sure just yet.

Tank during water change today...

My secondary goal of not having everything "amazon sword green" will take a little longer to establish but the good thing is that the contrasting colours are there.

*MODS If you could be so kind as to add the following two plants to my initial plant list: Proserpinaca Paulustris 'Cuba' Hygrophila sp. ''Araguaia'' I'd be really grateful.

Tank looks awesome, can't wait to see it once the plants have grown a bit. :)

Thanks Kiwi! Eagerly awaiting pics on your 90L.

Small update...

This plant melted back to nothing and I had written it off completely but one stem survived and weekly I've been propagating and it's starting to "do well." The old leaaves have died back and now it looks like a venus fly trap. The plant is at the back of the tank. 55cm away from the glass so I had to Zoom all the way in. The pics don't really do it justice.

So things were going great until this exact post. Little did I know that with the addition of the two plants listed and added, I introduced snails into my tank

And they have munched through my s repens and are actively attacking the downoi  as well as any other plant that takes their fancy. The plants at startup were all from aquaessentials and more importantly snail free. I want to tell you what store sold me the snail laden plants but I'm guessing the mods might take exception to it so here's a clue, They are uk based and very expensive in comparison to the competition.

This is what the section above looks like now

The only source of good news here is that I have dealt with snails before and know how to obliterate them by modifying an 'as directed' snail treatment.

Oh no! Sorry to see the damage they've done :/
I'm sure they'll be gone in no time and your lovely plants will be looking lush once again :)

Primous... you are free to mention the store that you bought the plants from.  That's acceptable, just can't use blanket statements about the store/chain/whatever.

Reporting a factual event like this is fine.

Such as, "I bought plants A and B from store X.  I believe, that caused me to introduce snails to my tank, and here's the damage I believe the snails caused."

Just can't do this, "I bought plants from store X and they are such a terrible store.  They don't care about their fish, plants or anything, and on top of everything else, they are overpriced.  Their poor treatment of the plants allowed them to be covered in snails and now they ruined my tank."

Thanks for the kind words blondie. They pretty much wiped out or damaged everything but the hygro mini but fingers crossed. @Eagles I only planned to name the company nothing more.

The tank has been knocked off course and also gone through a week long blackout so for now I can only make a partial update. As some of you know I bought a pretty bland trio of apisto Macmasteri from a breeder. They were all bland looking. Pale and white with only the male having some red on his tail. I've been feeding them NLS for almost six weeks and have witnessed a huge transformation in the male and not only that today I have come home to find the female in her yellow dress trying to chew anything that comes near her vase.

I can not get a pic of the male because he's now obsessed with fighting his reflection at the back of the tank since the spawn. This is a zoomed in pic, up close his face is blue

Also this is how I get plants to pearl using 1bps. Tiny diffuser, tiny bubbles and keeping 95% of the bubbles submerged for over a minute to ensure 100% exchange

Then by the end of the light cycle they do this.

And lastly I bought some leds but haven't set them up just yet...

Great pics Primous! Looking forward to an FTS when your tank recovers!

Thanks Dazie. The snails and the treatment really hit my tank hard and after a one week blackout some plants are just starting to recover, others turned to mush but a fts will be taken sometime soon.
