Dedicated Shrimp Forum Topic?

LOL!! Marvellous how when we have a mod that is interested in shrimp the idea gets taken seriously... But when a mere member is interested in something happening we have to wait for ages for an answer, and the answer is usually a resounding "NO!!!"
That's unfair. There's a lot more goes on behind the scenes than you realise. It isn't as simple as "the mods want it so its done" and "the members want it but we don't care", and it's unfair of you to claim that it is.

Not really Caz.

Glen made the suggestion of a Dwarf Cichlid section be added to the New World Section. The result of the poll showed 31-7 i believe in favour. It was nearly a month before a member of the admin/mod team acknowledged it. This is after Glen had even reported the thread for the attention of the mods.

Tetra UK made the suggestion of a Shrimp section, 8 minutes later it is backed by a mod and states that it will be highlighted in the mod section.

Maybe things do happen 'behind the scenes', which is fair enough, but due to lack of feedback and updates relayed to the members on what is happening and any future plans for the site then unfortunately claims like these will be made. Alot of people think this, but many of them do not say it. Debate and communication from both parties need to be improved imo.

Nothing personal against anyone i have mentioned or reffered to, but maybe things should be discussed a little more openly?

Sounds like someone loves Dwarf Cichlids a bit too much

Actually he drew my attention to it within a couple of days of posting it (not in the suggestion section I might add), and it immediately came under discussion by the mods, and I informed him promptly that we were discussing it. Yes you're right this was not done publicly, but he was aware it was being discussed from the off.

But no update on what was happening was stated by you letting us know this... It wasn't just glen that wanted this so the other 30 people in favour had no idea what was happening and appeared to be being overlooked by the mods.

Ian stated what was happening with the shrimp so everyone knew within a few minutes.

And the comment about the poll for the dwarf cichlids apparently being in the wrong section is a bit daft when you had the ability to move it when you got to know about it. Glen made the poll there as it was to do with new world cichlids and would get more traffic from people who were interested in it than it probably would have done if it was in the suggestion section.

And Ace, I was actually more in favour of it going a head because at the minute I have more interest in the larger nw cichlids not because I love dwarf cichlids.

A dedicated shrimp section would be handy, and if it was a little higher up on the home page it would probably help people find it quicker and thus utilise it more readily. The only downside I can see is me seeing all the wonderful shrimp that everyone (well almost everyone) overseas can get quite readily but I can only dream about  . I can see some serious shrimp envy happening  . Just another suggestion maybe a shrimp section could include crabs (both land crabs and fresh water types) as well as crayfish, yabbies, crawfish, marion basically any sort of crustacean that isn't necessarily a saltie inhabitant.

Hi Baccus,

Thansk for your reply.. I'm sorry to read that you don't have a good source of shrimp where you are...

On the point of including crabs and other crustaceans they are already really included under the current forum of Invertebrates, Amphibians & Aquatic Reptiles in the other pets sub forum.

It is only due to the current rise in popularity of shrimp and the number of members keeping them that I suggested that a dedicated section for shrimp discussion is created here on TFF.

Kind regards,

TetraUK

Why not just move the Invertebrates, Amphibians & Aquatic Reptiles up the forum list?

I might not be able to get many or any of the overseas stunning shrimp, but if I can track down some of the native shrimp that I know are in our creeks and river systems I reckon I'll be the one receiving shrimp envy  . The only reason I suggested that all crustaceans be together is just for the ease of going to one section of the forum, of course if the mods liked the idea I am sure the different crustaceans could be individulaised into sub forums under the one crustacean banner. So a sub heading of say Fresh water shrimp (Not sure if you would want to confuse people by also having saltie shrimp or maybe they could have their own heading under the main crustacean banner), then there could be other headings like Crabs, Yabbies (and all the other names they are known by) but just give each type of crustacean their own sub forum heading.

Personally I would like to see a shrimp only section, where people will hopefully be able to easily find relavent topics/ threads relating to their shrimp keeping experiences.

Why not just move the Invertebrates, Amphibians & Aquatic Reptiles up the forum list?

that is an option...

The thing is minnnt, there was never anything highlighted in this section. It's not just because i'm interested in shrimp, i never go in the Cichlid section. As Caz stated, it has been up for discussion in the mod section anyway. The thread was a little farcical though and I personally locked it as it became a war of flames. Tis not a good way to start a new sub section is it??

I didn't say it was your fault that it wasn't noticed sooner... but there are more mods than just you...

this is not a dig at you,is it not in a mods personal interest to visit every section to ensure that nothing is overlooked and the site runs smoothly

But then you would be getting the mods overlooking the same topics, and the less popular forums would may be missed.
I am sure the mods look over most things, its just they have there own forums and sub forums that they carefully look over, and this spreads the work load easier.

NW is led by the top man... and surely something with 'dwarf cichlids in a seperate section' as the title would draw the attention? :look:

Hi Team,

I was wondering if my suggestion had been discussed and what the admin teams thoughts were on the subject of creating a new dedicated shrimp section on TFF?

Many thanks,

TetraUK

The answer is that at this stage that section of the forum isn't busy enough to warrant seperate sections for shrimp/snails etc. Seperating a section which coveres several topics into smaller sections each with their own subtopics necessarily means each section becomes less busy. At this stage the inverts sections isn't busy enough to warrant that seperation. However, if it continues to get busier in the way it has then we will reassess the situation later on down the line. It's not a no, it's a not yet :good:

Personally i was looking for a shrimp section a few days ago..maybe just "rename" the forum? Be far easier!

as for it not being busy.....ALL you shrimp lovers....get posting on there now and MAKE it busy!!
