Debate

Thank you to the one person who agree's with me. ;)

I have had MANY betta's. My sister has 8 and I help her with thoughs. I only take one at a time so I dont have that many ten gallons. My sister has the males in 5 gallons and the females in 10 gallons. In all I have had about 7 betta's and my sister has had around 19 and she is possible going to do breeding.

DO NOT SAY I KNOW NOTHING OF BETTA'S. :X

So you think your betta wont like a ten gallon, then get it a five.

All of the betta's I have had, loved bigger tanks. I have had to do some quarenting with some and they NEVER like anything smaller than a 5 gallon.

If fineland really does have a law like that then they are very intelligent people. I am from the U.S. .

Why would this topic close? I am stating my opinion and what I (and a lot of other people) think what is right for a betta.

Yes, some betta's do kill tank mates but you dont have to put it with another fish. My point is you should give your betta MORE than what they use. It isnt a waste.

I have had betta's that have lived to a little over 4 years in a ten gallon. A filter, heater and frequent water changes is the key for a happy betta.

If you arnt going to get a 10 gallon in any way then at least get a small filter for the important bacteria to grow on. :/

A small shallow tank is a little better than heighth but it is still at risk of a drop in pH or ammonia spikes.
When you are recreating its natural habitat you would recreate what it looks like. You wouldnt want to recreate the danger's. That was a silly answer.
Who says debate has to be calm and I am not yelling am I? You cant tell because I am behind a key board.
I say its the breeder standard because people who do not breed usually care enough for one betta to be in a nice big tank while breeders dont want to take up that much space. If you breed the pet you must be able to house each and every one of the potetial 500 babies.
I can compare a 2.5 to a bathroom because the waste is sitting there for a week before it is taken out...actually its worse than a bathroom.

No. Why are my views so bad? Are you going to melt out your eyes when you see them?!?! Are you afraid someone is going to take my "horrible, cruel, inhumane" advice?

I'm sure she probably meant that in a nice way, or else she would have said shut up? I don't know.

I never said you didn't know anything about bettas. My point was that you're not expert and you really shouldn't be stating your opinions on your own bettas as fact and the case for all bettas.

Also, if your sister does indeed breed bettas, do you expect her to keep all the fry in 10 gallons each?

She has not bred yet, and may never, but I would expect her to be able to give then nice 5 gallon minimum homes.

Furryrabbit, I am glad your boy is in a 5 gallon, but you cannot change from big to small. That is just cruel to take away his space.

Oh woah is me. I am not a expert because I believe in giving betta's a better evironment.

How do you expect her to house up to 500 bettas in seperate 5 gallon tanks? It'd be almost impossible, unless you just happen to have a huge fish room and a ton of money. And even breeders with huge fish rooms don't keep their juvies in 5G tanks. It'd be murder on the breeder trying to maintain 500+ 5 gallon tanks!

I have had betta's that have lived to a little over 4 years in a ten gallon.

And there are people that have had their bettas live 4+ years in 2 gallons!

Your views aren't necessarily bad but they are wrong. Saying that bettas *need* more than 5 gallons is just plain wrong. If you had said "I think that it is better to keep bettas in more than 5 gallons than it is to keep them in smaller tanks," I would have to agree with you. However, the fact remains that bettas can not only live in less than 5 gallons, but they can be happy in that much water as well. You can go up in my room right now and look at all my males' tanks (2-3.3 gallons) and nearly every one of them will have a bubblenest.

I dont think its possible for me to go into your room right now, unless you were my neighbor or lived in my attic.

My house is not nearly big enough to fit that many ten gallons but I said she would find good homes for most.

If not, then a bunch of ten gallons with dividers so they at least get filtered water.

I would love to give my bettas five gallons or more each, but I simply don't have the space, living out of one room. I know at least one of the two I have would really appreciate it, as she's a fiesty little thing. My other betta is more poised and calm - and my sister's betta was recently moved to a 2.5 gallon tank and doesn't seem to care. I'm sure they all enjoy what they have, because they haven't been in larger - but I'm also sure they would enjoy and be more enjoyable in larger homes. If the water is kept spotless, it's only the sense of size that would bother them any.
