yeah she does have one but the only way i can really tell their prego is looking from the front- if they are fat, they are prego. i have seen some platies in the pet store with huge gravid spots but are not pregnant...
hmm she's not particularly fat but before today I've never seen the spot (or maybe it was yesterday) i've bought a big tank for my platys and we're collecting it on thursday!!!!! :hyper: and Shimmer the fish won't face me when i'm holding a camera :)

well i would just keep looking at her front the front or even the top sometimes helps sometimes

You usually can't see the gravid spot on my orange mickey mouse but now that she's very pregnant, you can see it very clearly! I think it varies from fish to fish. :good:

It actually varies with the amount of color in the fish's skin. If they are heavily pigmented, you will never see a gravid spot. If they are lightly pigmented, as most guppies are, you will easily see a gravid spot. In either case, I always resort to shape to judge a fish's state. If I try to do it with gravid spot color, I always fail miserably.

yeah i never saw the gravid spot on my other platy i think Shimmer is getting a bit fatter. anyway, it now day 8 and my fry has now got proper eyes (as in, not just the pupil). unfortunatly whenever i go up with a camera he hides so i haven't been able to get any more pics. if anyone has any pics of fry please put them up!

i have pics of my molly fry when they were younger, but i dont have a photobucket account so i cant post them.... i really need to join.... :p

i just loaded them onto the computer, brought them up on that program that lets you edit them (Microsoft something) and then clicked 'edit picture' then 'compress picture' and then 'compress for 'web pages'' then ok. then i closed it and then clicked 'choose file' (when you are replying) and it came up with a list of all the pics on my computer and i selected the one i wanted the i clicked 'attach this file' and then 'add to post'. i think thats probably the hard way to do it and it would probably be easier with photobucket.

Como, go join photobucket. It is free and has a huge storage capacity for your pictures. It is where all of mine are kept that I use here. I have the originals on 2 separate hard drives at home. I can't afford to lose years of pictures of my kids and grand kids.

so its 100% safe? no scams or things like that? is it easy to use?

:fish:

It is very easy to use. You just tell the web site to get your picture wherever you have it stored on your hard drive and it uploads it. I find it best to "resize" my pictures because I am using a 10 megabyte camera and it takes forever for one to upload if I don't shrink it first. Mine start at about 3200 pixels wide and I shrink them to 800 x 600 with a new picture name before trying to upload. The new picture name is so that I can keep the originals with their original details just in case I want to use them later for something else. My picture editor came with my "Office suite" set of software but there is plenty of editing software available on line at no charge if you don't have that. You can even do it after uploading to photobucket using the editing software that they provide. The only thing you give up is that photobucket can use your picture to display it to other people, like right here on TFF. That is why the link works.

so pretty much i can store my pics on there but viewing is for the public?

Viewing is for the public unless you designate a picture as private. If you do that, we won't be able to see it here either.

1. i would suggest that you feed Happy finely crush flake food- i believe that it is better for them and they are not older when you first give them flakes and their like "whats this?"

2. i have never had orandas but i have had goldfish. if it fuzzy and looks like fungus then get some meds. ick looks like someone sprinkled salt on your fish. i would keep watching it to see is the wen, if not i recommend buying Mardel Coppersafe for ick, velvet, and parasites- cure my ick in about 3 days! i think it is the wen b/c ick would probably start on the fins or body, not exactly where the wen would be. i suggest posting this question under the cold water fish and ponds section.

3. when i first got my 20 gal (intended for platies) my neighbor with an aged topical tank put some of his water with some fish poop in it to help speed the process of cycling. i cycled that tank for 3 months- the longer the better (it was such a long wait! :)) i have heard that people also might put a few minnows in there which would be similar to adding the aged water and poop. so you could buy like 3-5 minnows depending on the size of the tank.

4. i feel much better when i feed my bettas frozen food (to condition them for breeding). i would love to feed al of my fish frozen but it would get expensive. for flake, freeze dried, pellets, etc i love and recommend Omega One. if you compare ingredients (which i have done to Tetra and Aqueon) , omega one has the most fish meat in it and not as much wheat products. i also crush it up for my fry which is then mixed with tetra and aqueon flakes and sun dried baby shrimp! yeah.... i spoil my fish
