The soap opera continues... it turns out today that Annie is actually a very late developing boy. We've renamed him Annekin. So much for girl power!
All my carefully laid plans for gender balancing are now scrambled, I was aiming for 1 male and five females and then six guppies to finish off the stocking. I deliberately wanted to avoid two males or less than two females per male because I thought it could lead to agression and harassment but despite the best of intentions that's exactly what I've ended up with!
So I've currently got two young male platies, two young females, 1 adult female and the two surviving wagtail fry which I would love to keep. I'm thinking I should perhaps now aim for three male platies and 6 or 7 females and drop plans for the guppies, which would be a shame but would keep me within my stocking limits. I might get overrun with platy fry though!
