Well, I have been thinking for a while now, and decided i should start a little farm of brine shrimp. I have just ordered 500 brine shrimp.... In which i will keep 2/3 for breeding and to watch intil max growth (well maybe not max, but to a decent size) and the other 1/3 i will feed to my other 2 tanks, making a nice treat for the fish. My aim would be to mass produce brine shrimps (if you havnt guessed)

I have a few questions about this though, which i hoping someone could help me out.
I have a fairly large house for them, (i have 1 large box....and if worst comes to worst, i have 3 used sea money homes things, which i had when i was younger. The big box is around, 30cm long, about 15cm from top to bottom and 15cm wide, which IMo think thats a good size)

1) I am right that a need an airstone in there? If so, Would it need to be on 24/7 or just a few hours a day?
2) Could I just simply use the water in which the shrimp come with, And then perhaps add tap water? If i was to add tap water, How much salt would i have to use? (would table salt or sea salt be alright?)

Well Thats the only 2 things im finding hard to answer, so any feedback, thanks very much! ;)

can i ask one question please

WHY?

You may..... Because i can feed them to fry and my fish.... yet they are still fun to watch as mini pets :)

i looked at doing this once u know but it seemed so much work to do, i thought whiteworm etc was easier.

and as far as i know but correct me if im wrong, brine shrimp as they get older they lose their nutritional value?

Yep that is true... But I will feed them to fish, It isnt really to much work at all.... Food cost me 1.20 for there food which will last a while and the 500shrimp cost me 2.00, So even if it fails....only 3.20 lost in total

u usually need 10gallon container ideally

u will need to use sea salt NOT table salt about 1.020 to 1.022

ideally a hydrometer is usefull

it will need to be heated and filtered the warmer u keep them the faster they go throught their life cycle

a sponge filter is ideal and this will provide the aeriation needed u dont need as much as when u hatch them as u do growing them up

a strong light is good as well fro growing algae to feed on :good:

you should just hatch you own shrimp to be honest for £5 you can got millions of eggs, feed them green water and they will grow to adult size in 15 days or so. much cheaper then 500 for £2.

just hope you have enough space to rear them all, and then u can try to breed them as well if u want to be bothered.
