First time I am aware of these guys. I saw this pic on Dan’s Fish site. Quite unique in appearance. Anyone have this beauty?

I’ve seen them mentioned on Aquarium Co-op before. Never kept them but they seem like a hidden gem. They’re ambush hunters and have really fascinating behavior once mature. Also known as Leaf Fish.

I bet Gary knows all about this specie.

I think they like to hide in the plants… I remember someone having the ( not specifically the spotted variety, but complained that their leaf fish was almost always had to find… these do look amazing though, and I think fit nicely into my tank of Africans… except I’m at capacity with tetras right now…

What is your take on buying wild vs tank-raised fish when the option is available?

I think it makes a difference where and what they are, and where they are farmed

These are the big league - the whole "Bush fish" as a trade name. One leaf ain't enough for these guys. Leaf fish are similar looking South American creatures.

I've kept 4 species of Mictroctenopoma, but never those big guys. I don't keep the big species of anything, and they can run well over 10cm, up to about 15 with a high, heavy body. They're predators, and not great with flake food most of the time.

They are hardy, and tough. In my experience, not great community fish. The Micro ones push Cichlids around.

Beautiful fish !!!

Leaning to the rule that the most colorful species are the less subjective to their environment. I would say that they are pretty tough.

Tall and strong body with very short fins... Is an indication of a lot of "power" !!!
