Hey guys, had 2 heavily berried female Cherry Shrimp in my tank, they've been pregnant for a few weeks know, not sure exactly how long but I got home from work this morning and they're eggs have disappeared. They're bellies are still massive though?

Could they of had the shrimplets or have they aborted? Hope its not the latter as I really want some more Shrimp :shout:

I can't see any babies in the tank, but I guess they will be tiny and the cat litter substrate makes it really hard to spot even the adults at times!

Cheers

Title is completely wrong, knew I should've had some sleep before posting... RCS eggs* lol

Babies are tiny and when they first hatch white/ clear so against kitty litter they are going to be impossible to find. Most times I have only fluked finding new borns when looking REALLY closely at the glass. Usually the babies hide straight away in weed (or in filters :grr: ), once the babies have grown to around 1/2 cm and starting to colour up you will find them much more easily.

Hmm so I could have babies afterall, forgot to put tights on my filter so will pull that out later, check it for shrimplets and cover the intake I think.

Guess its just a case of waiting for them to start appearing then lol

Thanks

Shrimp tend to hold eggs for 20 days or longer it depends on temp. Shrimp can drop eggs if stressed or for other reasons. But if they were berried for 2 weeks chance is they let the fry go. If you have lots of plants or gravel you will not see many or any shrimplits. They hide really well and don't move much for the first few days. In a week you should start to see a few tiny shrimp but it might take 3 weeks till you Start to really see any young shrimp. Congrats.

What kind of filter to do you have? Is it shrimp proof?

I noticed the eggs around 3 weeks ago and they only "vanished" near the end of last week, they went really pale then were gone lol.

I have a small internal that I covered the intake with tights so shrimplets don't get sucked in.

The 2 females have been in the moss and not moved for about 3 days now but have just started to venture out again this morning... giving birth maybe?

Thanks

Confirmed sighting of a shrimplet!!! Saw him/her whizzing around in the moss, tiny tiny little things, couldn't even take a photo because it's so small and still see-through.
