The more i look at my little female Nixie.. The more i dont think shes a veil tail. I bought her as such. But all the pics and other females ive seen... I think she might be a crown tail. I know that they pulled her from the back at a local petco when I asked to see all their females. The three the employee brought out look fat. Not sure if their over fed or eggy? He brought three, Nixie included, saying they have been kept in the back for 6 weeks to see if the chest chubbiness was anything, but they assumed it wasnt and was getting ready to put them out. (Not sure if he was lying or not). They even had one female that look very much like a doubletail. Ive had Nixie less then a week. Bossy little creature, at least to the boy bettas she teases from her tank. So... My two questions are... do you think shes over fed or eggy? Either way, anything i can do for her? And... Think she might possibly be a crown tail, not a veil tail? Ill post the link to my facebook photo album, and a few pics here.

hi, she does look like she could be a crowntail. maybe shes half giant beta which could expalin the large chest, if she is part giant you'll have to rehome her to a bigger tank, (in fact in my honest opinion you need to rehome her in at least a 5 gallon, those tanks are cruel), they grow to 3 and a half inches and a full giant is 7! anyway, she is a beauty just keep an eye onher. not sure how to tell if she has eggs but maybe she'll reabsorb them if she does have eggs. see if you can remove her from seeing the boys . the thing that makes me think shes not eggy is the absence of breeding stripes. hope that helps x

She is a crowntail. Looks like she has pretty good ray banching in her tail. The bottom picture shows her egg tube very clearly and the lighter area in her belly looks like she is carrying a bunch of eggs.

She looks like a combtail (VT x CT). The rays aren't very defined which leds me to believe she is a combtail. I would say she is eggy.

I seriously doubt she's a king. She's just a touch smaller then my males.as for the tank, it is a temp thing. Her perm home should be finished cycling in a week or two.she will have 15 gallons along with some cories and daniosto herself. If that doesn't work out, I have a slot in my 20 gallon betta condo for her, which should be done in 4 weeks. And she's also there to entertain one of males, just incase he's tail biting.
