hi guys, i'm after a little advice. basically i've got 22gal tank (3ft) and it has 5 serpae tetras, 2 kribs (both female) i firemouth and some kind of plec (not exactly sure what it is but i've been assured its of the small variety) i really want to get a blue acara or a jewel cichlid to go in this tank but i'm not 100% sure if tankmates would be ok and if the size of the tank would be an issue. the last thing i want to do is get one and then find i have to rehome.

so what do you think? should i go with either of these thanks for any advice

Unfortunately the tank isnt large enough, you are fully stocked with the fish you already have, even if they look small now, they will grow.

If you want that combination, I would advise an upgrade to at least a 55g tank.

maybe if you got rid of the firemouth but then again jewel cichlids are aggressive so he may terrorise other tank mates i would stick with what you have or look for something a little smaller and then rehome some fish to make room for it because as minx says you are alread overstocked

ok, not to worry. i guess i'll just wait until i can get a bigger tank. 55 gal sounds good. the fish i currently have do look good in the tank at the moment and i did think that the blue acara/jewels would be too much for it. i personally think that to many fish spoil the look of the tank anyway so i'm quite happy to wait until i can get another tank. many thanks for the help x x x

jewel cichlids are beutiful fish. it sucks that they are so agressive as i would love to keep them but they always end up killing or taking over the whole tank
