recently my peppered cory has been floating on the surface of the tank. He looks healthy and seems fine apart from the floating. He doesnt look bloated and can swim to the bottom when moving but when he stops to rest it seems to be on the surface. All the other fish in the tank are fine.
Here are the stats:
Ph-7.5
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - between 20 and 50.
I changed the water because of the Nitrate and did another test but the same readings so i tested the tap water and thats the problem its between 20 and 50!!!
That seems high for tap water, doesnt it?? Theres been gas works on our road, i dont know if that could cause higher Nitrate levels in the tap water??
Ive read that Corys are sensitive to Nitrate levels, so i believe this is the problem but have no idea what to do with regards to the water??
I did originally think it was constipation so starved them for 3 days and feed blanched pea but with no results. I went to the LFS to look at Bladder infection medication but they advised that this was rare in Corys and that it would most likely be something else.
Has anyone had similiar problems? With Corys? Or high Nitrate in tap water? And has anybody got any advice on how to proceed??
