Whats the best way to grow and sustain a copepod culture?... and has anyone ever done this before? ive been reading about it all over and seems like a intelligent thing to do to help maintain the natural food?

Any helps would be much appreciated,

Thanks in advance!

Charlie

Not got a real species in mind but have been researching... Calanus finmarchicus...

Really easy to do:

container - i used a childs fish tank
airpump
phyto
salt water
culture of copepods and rotifers (ebay or reefculture)
window sill

set-up tank
pour in phyto until it looks like a green tea mixture
put on your window sill
add culture
leave for a month and then start harvesting every three days

When the weather turns warm you probably wont need to add phyto after a while as the water will start to grow green algae

ps

no heat or extra light required

Thanks Seffie,

That sounds super simple!, ill be looking forward to starting a culture now.
Be good to have a nice natural supplement for food :)

Good luck, let me know how you get on :good: I ordered a starter kit from ebay yesterday, so hoping to get my culture started soon

Yeah i will do im just trying to decide which window sill im using and what tank to go out and buy... but with it sounding so simple im deffo doing it! gd luck with yours!

:good: I'm using a small 10ltr tank which was designed as a show tank for displays, so its pretty small. I've read of people using old 5ltr water bottles as well which i'd like to try
