my male keyhole cichlid looks like a pinecone when viewed from above, he is not really eating and just sits/hovers on the bottom all day, also it looks like he is gasping for air. i remember the female once had the same thing months ago and she is back to normal. but he has been like this for a couple of weeks now at least and is not getting any better. i never see him go to the toilet. it also appears like his eyes are slightly cloudy it looks like.

is there anything i can do for him or put him out of his misery?

never mind. i caught him to look at him out of the water and the looked like a balloon so i ended his suffering.

Once scales stick out last stage of dropsy organ failure. Fish rarely make it once scales stick out.
R.I.P.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What do you feed the fish.

1. no idea it like 100 liters
2. 1 bristlenose, 1 keyhole, 4 baby green severums
3. no idea dont have a testkit
4. flakes,freeze dried tubifex,earthworms,cooked fish, cooked chicken

You need to get your water tested. I would take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.
Fish can't digest fat to well.
