I currently have 9 congos in a 55 gallon along with a pair of kribs. The congos are pretty small - ranging from 1.5 to 2 inches in length.

There is a very attractive male congo at the lfs -- but he's much bigger -- I'd guess around 3 inches.

Is it ok to add an older/larger congo to the group of 9? Will he naturally fit in and school with the others?

I cannot see you having too much trouble as the new addition will be the new dominant male in the shoal. There might be a bit of desplaying and at the worst a bit of a scrap. This behaviour will happen anyway when the others grow, for the dominant position within the shoal.
