I have a Cory which I have just identified (thanks to this site) as a Melini.

I have a few different species but this melini used to always hang out with my panda.

My panda recently died and my Melini seemed sad so I got 2 Metae (thinking that's what he was). The problem is he wont shoal with the metaes and spends all his time hiding, surely the metae aren't that different that they wont shoal with a melini?!? Is it because I got them at different times>

Also just wondering whether Metae and Melini can breed?

Also my Juli lost 1 eye, I did post on the ER section but just wondering what people think about 1 eyed corys... possible causes? Quality of life etc.?

Lastly do Corys prefer sand to gravel.. and if so how do you clean sand (i.e. what do you use instead of a gravel vac)?

Thanks in advance!

I guess it can tell. You really need to get some more C. melini if you have the room.

Yes, but they probably will not. If they do, dont save the eggs.

It will be fine and shouldnt have any problems. Cories use their barbels more then their eyes. They actually have poor eyesight.

They prefer sand. Sand is not that hard to keep clean. My cories arent that messy, but if there is stuff on the bottom, the filter usually takes care of it.

I have my corys in a community tank so it's the others mess i'm worried about. So you don't have to vacuum sand? How does it stay clean?

As for buying melinis I'll have a hunt around for them but i keep being sold fish under the wrong name thinking they're the same as the ones i've got.. until i get them home for closer comparison!

Thanks for the advice!
