well I have 2 coconuts in my dorm, i'm hoping to make them into caves, so..... how exactly is it prepared? and what have you done with them? put up some pics or just throw out some ideas! Thanks again everyone!

keep in mind, i haven't eaten them yet so, if theres any special way or spot i should open from so i don't mess up a possible idea, do tell! hahahah!

I have 3 cocunut caves altogether.
I simply cut them in half with a saw and then drilled a hole for the entrance. I boiled it for a few minutes
then just put it in one of my tanks. It is not buoyant like bogwood and won't soften the water much either.

Something thats not been mentioned, also drill a hole in the top of the to allow any air to escape that may get trapped in there.
Another thing I do is cover then with Java moss to try and hide them

I already did one, but i will leave the other up to you guys to come up with a neat idea. for the first one, i decided against cutting it in half. i cracked a hole in the side (looks kinda neat) and hollowed out the center. it's soaking in my sink right now. i'm going to start some plants that i have grouwing ontop of it and hopefully they will expand out and cover over the entrance a bit.

I got to jump in the shower but i'll make another post with some pictures when i get back!

I'm planning on covering my cocunut cave with Java Moss... makes it look slightly more natural...

I totally want one (or two) in my RCS tank :D Luckily, I already have a coconut palm tree in my front yard :D (us Floridians  ) I want to grow some Java Moss on it too, or algae :D

They have coconut caves in my lfs they have java moss on them and they want £12.99 for them!!!!!!!!!

Wow! This is a great idea & I need a nice little cave for my fish tank, so i'll be giving this a try. I do like the idea of using the java moss. All of my plants are plastic, and I don't have any kind of special lighting (just overhead florescent & lunar lighting for the evening). Could I use Java Moss without special lighting?
