I have two coconut caves, made from the same coconut. I used a hack saw to cut it in half, and then sawed off one end for the opening. One of them is covered in java moss, which I like the look of on it. One thing I can say is I would suggest pulling off the stringy parts of the husk, unlike the person in the linked article said. I have spoken to people who have had problems with it rotting after a time, and their moss floating away with it. Sounds like a mess. I pulled it off of mine to start with and have had no problems with rotting, release of tannins, or anything else. They've been in there for six or eight months so far, I think.
