I had a small feeder goldfish, and it just recently died from fin rot. I would like to get something else for my tank, though I don't know what yet.
How should I clean the tank since there must be bacteria in there? I did use antibiotic, but would that kill all the bacteria that causes fin rot?

Thanks.

Just give the tank a nice big clean out, and buy some antibiotic's for finrot and put them in and u should be alright

-_- that's a little un-needed eh
sounds like he was just keeping it as a pet
Besides there is nothing wrong with feeder fish but this is not the place for a debate

Bleach could also be used, i have cleaned rocks for my fish tank with it. Just dilute the bleach in water wipe your tank down then wipe it dry, and let the tank sit for a least a day so all the bleach can dry off and give it a good rinse, seems to be the simplest way to me

Actually, it was a pet. My sister brought it home one day, and I went out and spent like $25 on a 50 cent fish because I didn't want to just stick it in a bowl and watch it die.

Though it would probably make a tasty snack for one of my tarantulas

I think I'll go for the bleach. Do I need to change the filter cartridge or anything though? Thanks again.

when i do a complete overhaul of my tank, i rinse it out with vinegar and hot water, followed by lots and lots of hot water to get rid of the vinegar.

i'd go with the bleach, but let it dry itself out completely in the sun, i heard bleach will vaporize into the air that way (obvoiusly i'd rinse it a few times afterwards just to be safe)

that's what i did wtih my 25G, i bleached it, left it out in my backyard for like 2 days to dry completely, rinsed it with regular water again, let it dry before i acutally put water and gravel in it :D

p.s. very nice of you to spend that kinda money on te feeder fish :)
