i was just thinking, my other half loiter around another forum that allows a for sale thread for other items as well as items for cars (car forum)

they also have a section for ebay listings, and i think this is a VERY good idea.

some people may want things, but not know where to look or trust other sites, yet people on here also know each other and have built up a trust/bond so would be better to deal with others on here

the forum i mentioned, also has a feedback system, to let others know if it has been a fantstic (+) ok (neutral) or bad (-) transaction.

would it not be a good idea to do something like that here?

i think ALOT of people could benefit from a classifieds section for non fish items

what do you all think?

for me this is totally pointless, this is after all a fish forum, i come on here to look up fishy items, and when i click 'view new posts/content' i dont want to be wading through people selling all their everyday cr*p. Lets keep this forum fishy, if you want to buy other stuff, join other forums, and after all thats why ebay is there, s you can sell your stuff. If you want a car, look at a dedicated car selling site, like auto trader. If you want a camera look at a dedicated camera forum/site, like talk photography.

Lets let common sense prevail here and keep the forum fish related.

i know this will become a heated debate, but the answer is simple really.

could not agree more. as with the "General" section. just a waste of time for our mods. if you really need to sell something, use gumtree. or better still your local rag.

I personally would like to see fish related ebay sales allowed on here, especially ones created by actual members...I see no reason why this couldn't be allowed. I don't see why we need to be able to sell anything else here though.

And as for the feedback/rating system...nice idea, but in reality it's complete pants. Nothing but a pain in the *** for the mods.

RE 'feedback', since the majority of negotiations are done via the board (rather than PM), if people aren't happy with the seller/buyer then that information can easily be passed on to future buyers/sellers to that person. If a transaction goes amiss, then the mods are notified and appropriate action can be taken.

In other words, we've already got a system in place that doesn't involve complicated and possibly non-possible forum addons.

another twist on this : - you have a phone for sale but you dont want to pay £3 to list it on ebay, then wait 3 daysa for it to be bid upto stupid amounts by nigerian scammers, only to have to wait for ebay to re-embusrse your fee's, you then relist AGAIN and the phone finally does sell for lets say, £100? NOW you have final value fees, and on top of that you also have paypal fees, so from the sale of this £100 on ebay you have lost £3 listing fee, £10 final value fee and £5 paypal fees (if not more), so that £100 has dwindled down to £82

would you rather have your phone sell to a stranger, who you know nothing about and could have potential repercussions - or - someone off here who is known cand can be trusted?

same goes with a TV, fridge freezer, lamp shade, ANYTHING you can think of. one mans trash is another mans treasure

people say it would be a pain to moderadte, so designate someone to keep an eye on the classified section, it can be done (and has been done on other forums with great sucsess)

personally i think it shouldnt be somthing that is shunned away mearly because this is a fish forums, does that mean were not allowed to discuss cars/motobikes/other pets (because correct me if im worng, but we DO have sections for this) does this mean by your logic we should do away with those aswell as there not fish related?

i repect that all sales are public, but a newcomer like me has no idea who the good and bad traders are, same with ebay, the only way to know is via a feedback system.

do i have to trawl back through someones history to see if there a good seller or not? after all this is a suggestions and IDEAS section, weather it be good or bad, why should it be shot down? because 1 person said, no its to much hastle or i dont like it. if thats the case, then sad times :(

but i dont know everyone on here, and even the people i do know, i dont know them well enough... there are 1000's of people on this forum (most inactive) but still, it would be no different from ebay, most of the equipment, plants and livestock i have sold, have gone to people i dont know so your point is invalid really.
selling something on ebay is your problem, they are the rules you abide by, if you dont want to pay fee's then i suggest you go onto the street and start shouting that you have a phone for sale. millions use ebay and put up with it. Lastly, and most importantly, there is a far larger target market on ebay for your product. On here we are fishkeepers and most wont even bat an eyelid if you are selling your fridge.

oh, and why does this forum have to be compared with 'others'. There is always 'other' forums. Those sayings are much like.... Its a 'thing', 'you know' or 'im after some stuff', very vague.
Why do we have to follow what others are doing, i think uniqueness (if thats a word) is better and makes this forum a mmore special place, if we want a sterile ebay like environment then im sure it would have been created already.

With regard to the feedback, oohFeeshy is totally right, we all know who some of the 'bad' guys are, and i can tell simply by their posts, threads, language and attitude. im sure others can as well. (not to mention the rediculous offers they give  )
because 1 person said, no its to much hastle or i dont like it. if thats the case, then sad times
what happens if this one guy is the owner of the forum or a senior management figure?

if a newcomer is in doubt i suggest they 'get to know' some members first. posting on topics and having a good discussion with members is a sure wasy to get to know the skills, qualities and trustworthyness of each member. i picked it up fairly quickly. Alternatively, you can hop over to ebay and get a similar product from hong Kong.

thats my point. this MAY be a fishy forum, but people who keep fish, also like photography, cars, bikes GAMES CONSOLES!! which i have seen a section for.

i think this is just blatantly biased, as long as one section suits one person, it can stay. but another section, a big fat NO.

the feedback would sit under your name, and it shows how good it is. a newcomer, as kev said, may not know if someone is a bad trader. does that mean EVERYONE on this forum is going to tell them not to trade with them? as even though deals ARE SUPPOSED to be done in the thread, MANY ask you to pm them - i have had this, i asked for pics and prices of a tank, and i was told no info UNLESS i pm'd them

my point being, ebay is a rip off, my brother just asked me to sell a phone, it sold for £300. ebay took £3 to list, £30 in final value fee and now we're still waiting for payment, but paypal (an ebay co) will also have a nice snippet of that too

if anything, make it so sellers pay a small fee per year to be able to sell.

AND IF YOU DONT LIKE THE SECTION - SIMPLE DONT LOOK!!

its not that people dont use cameras it that it is a fish forum. Hence the title tropical fish forums. If we were to start selling cameras becuase people use them when fish keeping, we would have to start selling vans becuase people use them to transport tanks and then perhaps wood becuase cabinets are made out of the stuff. it would be a never ending cycle and eventually would turn into a general action/flogging site.

but nuff said, the admin/s will decide whats best and good ol' common sense will kick in. Viva la Fish

ok, remove the non-fish pets section, the game section, and everything else too

you think about it, someone on here may be able to DELIVER a tank at a cost (cheaper than a courier), that could be advertised.

i think you stating "fish only" is a little outdated considering we have dogs, cats and even pigs being shown here!!

1* so trying to save someone a few quid on listing fees is MY problem? ummmmmmmm ok, sorry for having some decency
2* i suggest you pm the mods and tell the to remove all other sections not related to fish, I.E pets, cars etc
3* well good for you, but do I know who the bad guy/s are? No, people can lie over the internet, it isnt difficult to put on a front

then the forum will end up have commercial adverts like aquarist classifieds and personally, i find then annoying at the top of every page. We dont need these services. The forum has run smoothly without. Why change/fix something that isnt broke?

now that gets on my tits. is it mearly tunnel vision or arrogance that blinds you? what might seam like common sence in your eyes could look like outright loonacy to another
