Clam Growths

My clam [not sure what species, but I think its a maxima} has two circular white fuzzy looking growths on its shell. They are about 3-4 mm long coming off it with holes in the middle. What are these?

They may be parasites....clams are susceptible to them...can't tell without a pic. You need a digital camera...should be standard marine aquarium equipment. SH

are they close to the mantle at all? if they are on the outer surface of the shell chances are they are more epiphytic than parasitic, there arre many critters that will take up residenc on the shells of giant clams, even more in the scuttles of squamosas. I suggest you cut one of the two off, and scrape till you have nothing but shell, if there is no hole and they are not feeding off of the mantle then they cannot be parasites.

Yes it is pretty close to the mantle. Thats what I was thinking is if there was anything that commonly lives on clams that anyone knew about.

Do they ever move? can they bend over and reach the mantle? can you borrow someones camera?

No they seem to just be stuck on there never doing anything and I dont know anyone with a digital camera.
