Cichlasoma Ornatum Journal

What size is it Matt when it comes?
the cichlasoma pellets are quite small, probably twice or maybe 3 times the size of prima which is fine for the ornatums although everything can eat them so they need to be quick....

Keith has the jumbo fish pellets which are Keith sized so he gets them all to himself :hey:

bad news im affraid. one of the ornatums was found this morning floating on the surface.

looking at the marks on its side and the torn tail fin im pretty sure its the smaller one that was badly beaten a while back. no signs of disease etc so im guessing it was the victim of constant aggression from the others. im not sure how long its been dead but it really smelt bad

it had its mouth wide open showing a decent set of teeth that i never knew they had

such a shame to lose one of these stunning fish but these things happen with aggressive fish......

large water change this morning and a carefull eye for the next week or 2 just incase......

Aww mate thats awful! :(
yeah such a shame that one of these has died, they are just turning into stunning fish too...

i just hope that there isnt another victim and they start on the next weakest of the group.

it was defo the one that was beat up a while ago after inspecting the remaining group which never really recovered 100% tbh.

:( Also they will be going into the smaller tank soon won't they? :/
yeah should have been today but after finding the dead fish i didnt want to put any other new fish in there until im 100% sure it wasnt disease etc. ive just got to make sure Frank is well fed for another week or two....... 4 lance fish tonight for his lunch!

 Holey Moley! Won't be long before Keith is on the menu! :(
im keeping him very well fed to protect the barbs until i can move or sell them. if he has a full belly he wont be interested in other fish.... thats my theory abyway

I was just going to suggest that in the other thread. Would dearly love to have the Barbs from you Matt... :S

the ornatums, rainbow cichlids, firemouth, colombian tetras, pictus cats, humbug cats are all in the 60x24x18 tank now after a manic day of stock movement yesterday.....

slightly overstocked now i feel so i may have to lose the humbugs and maybe the rainbows

a few pics since the tank change and new decor etc etc and finally getting a new light fitted.......

WOW that driftwood looks amazing the way you got it set up. And about the new life spectrum, I would deffinatley say its where the color boost came from...its pretty expensive stuff but its really great stuff. Fish are really looking great though, nice job :good:
