Cichlasoma Ornatum Journal

WOW that driftwood looks amazing the way you got it set up. And about the new life spectrum, I would deffinatley say its where the color boost came from...its pretty expensive stuff but its really great stuff. Fish are really looking great though, nice job :good:
Thanks mate

thanks dave, but its not helped me with my choice........... :grr:

ive been waiting for a while to get a decent pic of these to try in the FOTM. this pic doesnt show all the colours in the fins but it is pretty clear for me. lol

Lol, don't get on at me, its your fault!

I told you what I would do in the other thread.

It must be really hard for you mate, I'm already attatched to mine and he is only 4"

Have you noticed any difference in spotting on the cheeks? I heard males has much more spots on the cheeks than female.

I added a pic of one of mine. They all show equal amount of patterns on the cheek :-|

hi mate. ive been trying to find out how to sex these fish for ages and recently found someone saying that males had more spots on the face and the usual more pointed dorsal and anal fins. looking at mine they all have plenty of spots and no obvious fin trails yet..... i would have thought by now they would unless they get nipped off by the others
there is still very very limited info on these fish anywhere and ive been finding it very hard to get any more feedback on them.

what size is yours DRE?

how are you finding them? mine are still skittish when i approach the tank even though they are in with other fish that dont seem to be bothered

May I ask who Frank is?
Frank is/was a RTC x TSN. i bought him as a tiny fish to keep in with my oscars tank but the growth rate was phenominal and he was over a foot long within 2 months........ i knew i couldnt keep him forever but didnt think it would be this short a period of time! he is now at an lfs who took him in for mr.

Jeez, that's crazy! How big will it get at adult size?

about 3ft ish....

just moved my LED light to the front of the tank and pointed it towards the middle of the tank giving a much more moody dramatic effect. as the light doesnt hit the rear of the tank it looks like the fish are coming from out of the darkness into the light giving it a deeper feel.
pics were taken on my phone so not great but i hope it gives the effect im seeing....

Stunning looking,,mate theres a bloke with glasses on in your tank

Just saw your selling some, shame were not closer
 no matter what i do i alwats get a reflection from the tv... maybe i should turn it off first!

mate im still deciding on what to do with my stocking and keep changing my mind. these ornatums get more colour and look more stunning every day so its a shame to lose some. my oscar is like part of the family so very hard to get rid and ive got a pair of motoro pups :S

i feel something should go but cant decide on what. no mega rush as the rays are still only small at about 5 inches and the oscar doesnt bother them but i feel him just being there scares them a bit...

ive just took a video on my phone of this tank so ill try and upload it to show the fish a bit better.... :good:
