This is my Chinese algae eater AKA ' Sucky' lol. He is about 7 months old now and around 2 inches long. His stripe seems to appear and dissappear. It this a normal thing for his species please? He is healthy, in great water conditions and very lively. It happens randomly at different times. Thank you for any information. X

There are many species sold under the common names Siamese or Chinese algae eater. I wonder if you have a female c. Nigriloba. If so, the pattern changing is indeed normal. Do you have other fish that may be causing her to display the stress colour pattern? Maybe one or two more algae eaters that are dominant? This profile says they need to be kept in a group of 6+.

He is alone in the tank, its advised to keep him single so they don't become aggressive.

What species are the other fish?
