I'm using Bettafix right now on my betta to fix his fin because it's tattered. I just wanted to know if I should remove the carbon filter since it doesn't say on the bottle. Also, it says on there not to do a water change until the treatment is over which is in 7 days, is this what I should do? And if I do a water change, it would be a 100% water change, correct? Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Edited to add: He's in a 10 gal tank btw.

Well, I want to move him in a few minutes to the tank. He's in a little bowl right now because I did a water change. Any suggestions would help though since he's not very happy not being able to get to his tank.

Nevermind. I moved him already. I just took out the carbon filter and put it in de-chloronated (sp?) water until the treatment is done.

That's probably a good idea. I don't know if it would interfere with anything, but it might.

Thanks, I didn't either. I've just heard you have to take it out when treating with Melafix which is basically the same thing.
I was also wondering, can I actually do the whole treatment with just one of those little bottles of bettafix? It says it treats 15 gal but I really doubt it. You have to put like 1/2 teaspoon for every gallon and I have a 10 gallon. It just seems like a lot. It says it has 1-1 1/4 OZ of net contents.

Nevermind, I just found out on my own. I just went to PetCo and bought every BettaFix I saw on the shelf. Not really comfortable diluting the MelaFix and mixing it with Bettafix. I'm guessing a lot of people don't use bettafix since I only got one response to this -_- . Either that or it was just a stupid question. Oh well...

It must not be widely available. People are generally pretty helpful here if they can figure out what you're talking about.

I'd say err on the side of caution:

Don't mix like medicines.
Don't use medicine with your carbon filter.
Do water changes during medicine treatments unless they tell you not to.
Do compare products, especially ingredients and prices!

That help any? ;)

Yes, I think it would've been better just to dilute the melafix but I was scared...lol. I've had too many fish die and the first one that's actually lived a month is getting really special treatment. I've known it wasn't widely used. I found it at a store an hour and a half away from my house...I didn't think to look at our petco until now.
That does help. Thanks. I'm thinking of not doing water changes until it's over. It said on the bottle not to. I just did a 100% water change before starting the treatment.

make sure you keep a close eye on the water parameters. if you decrease the frequency of the water changes, the water quality may have an adverse effect on his healing! :D maybe just keep on your regular schedule for changes?

edit betafix is a 1/5 dilution of melafix they are both tea tree oil

Thanks...I'll probably do that. I use to not clean it that often though...I know, bad decision. I just started doing that about a week and a half ago. So far is just more active. He actually jumped up from the water yesterday when I put my hand over it to bite me. It was pretty funny. I think he was mad because I kept him so long out of his tank.
