Can they be in here because there is really no forum for rainbow fish, But they share alot of characteristics with the fish in this forum. So can they be in here.

I was wondering what they came under,I've saw 2 I like

As we discussed in a previous thread, i disagree about classifying rainbowfish as oddballs (although i recognize that topics about rainbowfish have traditionally been shunted to that forum). There is really nothing odd about them except that none of the forum headings specifically include them. They are schooling fish with similar needs as cyprinids and characins, and could easily be discussed in this forum, instead of the oddball forum where the locals are concerned with puffers and arowanas and other fish that have specific, unusual needs.

I think they are too common to be regarded as oddballs, perhaps this section should include them.

They arent particulary specialsit either, they are increasingly mainstream....its the long development time that hampers their popularity i.e the yare drab for so long except the little uns ofc.

I also think this is a good idea and as pointed out in the previouse thread the oddballs forum seems to be mostly for puffers.

Oddballs only refer to small species of fish grouped in the category, oddball, and they are not necessarily fish with special requirements. Cichlids are a very large family, for example, and are in the category, cichlids. Oddballs get thrown together because they are either the only fish of their genus, or if there are only a few species ;) Every fish has special requirements BTW. Rainbowfish are similar to cyprinids because they shoal, and that's basically it :)

Their needs in aquaria are very similar - similar dietary considerations, they should be kept in mixed sex groups, they are easily intermixed with the types of fish talked about in this forum. If you read the description of the Oddball forum, it says "For all the weird and wacky species of the fish world." Rainbowfish hardly qualify as weird or whacky. IMO this is a much more appropriate place to discuss them.

Danionins are a large group, but you don't see me asking for
a special forum to discuss them in do you!

I am in full agrement that rainbowfish need to be included here.

I have answered questions about Rainbows in here before. I don't really regard them as oddballs, let me find out.

The 3 mods involved have basically said Rainbows can go here. I have put a thread on the mods board to get it officially stated.

Cool! Result.
So is it going to be called Cyprinids, Characins and Rainbowfish?
