Can I Do This

Ive ordered a new digital cam as my phone is just horrible. I did take some pics but they were disgraceful.
The cam should be here on Monday.
Oh and my black male con keeps flaring at the female with his gills when hes moving with her, is this normal?

Post up the bad pics. We won't judge your photographic abilities. We just want to see what this tank looks like. I've never seen a tank that size in someone's house.

But you cant even see it because of the blurriness and color distaution, if i'm going to post them, Im going to do it right!

Wouldn't a normal con breeding with a pink con turn out as a calico convict?

That was my own assumption, anyway. Never bred them though.

My LFS told me the black strain in cons was the most of dominant of all colors, is this true?
Also any help about the flaring?

Unsure about any dominance, but the black type is the 'proper' colour.

The flaring is probably a sign of him trying to attract her to his newly dug pit. If he is flaring in an aggressive manor then he would be chasing her all around the tank and probably force her to the top corner of the tank.

No its definitly not aggressivly, just everytime they meet eachother in the tank he does it but carrys on as normal,
One other thing if you dont mind - My lfs has True festaes in, which he never does, I really want to breed them and I have this spare 20g sitting there, I would eventually put them in the 200g but for breeding purposes they will be in the 20 which is 30x15x12, Is this big enough to do it?
Also do you pair them the way you pair other cichlids (buy 5-6)?

Thanks minnnt, you've been helped me so much!

I don't think that they would all come out as the wild colouration. That's just silly.

Not silly, just simple genetics. Maybe you misunderstood me. I mean the black striped gray. Not wild per say, but wild as in the coloration type of the non-pink adult. Pink is a mutation, and as such is a recessive trait. When I say "wild type" it means the standard color of the species. How it looked before we altered them, and how the standard ones still look today. They would not come out calico.

I still don't think they would all come out black. Hopefully if snakes breed then we will get to find out. :good:

I think the 20g would be too small for festaes to breed in, but I'm not sure.

What about a 100g I have sitting there? I could chuck some mature media in there and grab the festaes?

Well my male con is building another pit in a cave and the female is guarding it, hopefully it wont be long now.

Again, leucistic (pink) coloration is caused by an autosomal gene mutation. It is recessively inherited. A black and a pink Convict would produce black young. Two pinks would probably produce pink young. You might get an occasional random pink from a mixed pair. This is not my opinion, this is the scientific truth. The closest thing I've experienced firsthand is with a Gold female and Blue male Ram cichlid. All the young came out Blue. I'm just letting snake know what to expect, that's all.

Well the 100g is out the window, I went to go look at it since its empty with no water and it has a crack right across it. :/

Sending it back first thing in the morning.

Im not sure how it got there but I cant believe i never noticed it

Bearing in mind that the pink con is not 100% Convict it is half something else (im not sure ) My lfs said blood parrot but he says a lot of things.
WOW it wasn't a crack it was plastic on the front and it just had some air trapped in it, yes im back in buisness!
Setting this baby up next year though.
