does anyone know a good quality camera which will get me really good pictures of my fish? i see pictures all the time of fish where the pigments of colour can be seen. i'm planning on spending between £100-£500 and would like it to have changeable lenses.
thanks

I've recently bought a Cannon 400D, with additional lenses it may be slightly out of your price range but I'm hoping to start getting some good pictures soon (once I work out how to use it!).

If you're interested in photography, I'd recommend looking at http://www.aquatic-photography.com, they have some equipment reviews, and lots of great photos for inspiration.

Well if you want a basic compact camera the 80 quid Samsung S85 got super reviews, it is very compact with a large screen. My Dad has bought it for my mum's birthday on Tuesday and he got it out the other day, I was impressed.

I find the Fujifilm S304 to take brilliant pics of fish.
I have a SLR cam 12MP that cost me £750 and oddly enought the Fuji runs circles around it ya can also get one from ebay for £50 ish

for the price range id suggest the cannon EOS 350d!
mine came with a small (18-55) lense wich is good for close ups of fish!

I too, recently bought a Canon EOS 400D...

Best camera i have ever bought, easy to use, and takes great pictures!!!

However, i did see that Olympus brought out a new D-SLR... i think it was the E-410 or something (it might only be in Australia, but i'm sure there will be others out there).

Hope that helps :)

I would guess then that the simple photo mode on your fuji camera is a far better picture taker than you are with an slr then....nothing to do with the fugi running circles round the slr....I only say this as I suffer the exact same problem.

If you want your photography to develop, don`t hesitate to go for a Nikon or Canon DSLR. Once you start learning about depth of field and exposure, you will leave a point and shoot way behind.

or a Pentax or a Sony or an Olympus or a Panasonic or a Leica or any other brand. Seriously it pisses me off to no end when I read people saying "get a Canon or Nikon". All of the brands are good, no camera model is any better than another of the same class. It's all about personal feel and ease of use, brand name has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

It is a lot to do with the system you buy in to. If you start upgrading, you buy a new camera body but stay with the lenses, flash etc. This is a very important consideration , with no snobbery involved. I didn`t spend hundreds of pounds on a name, I spent it on the system, with the future of my hobby in mind.

Calm down SLC.

All I am giving is my own personal preference, the OP doesn`t have to go with it if he doesn`t want to. You clearly seem to have a problem with people recommending the two biggest names in DSLR cameras. This is a family forum, so quit swearing. :good:

If you think the Sony range is comparable to Nikon or Canon, then fine.

Pinkdolphin, try this site for some reviews:

Canon and Nikon aren't the world leaders for no reason.
And it gets my back up when people try to compare a compact or bridge camera with a DSLR they are worlds apart.
Back to the original question he wants a camera with changeable lens so look at the starter end of Canon and Nikon DSLR.

EOS 400D and the Nikon D40x are the beginner level DSLR's both similar priced and both do similar things. Goto a shop and try them out. IF you have the cash the seriously look at the D80 a a bit more money, but a lot more camera :)
