Mmm, a couple days ago I looked into my fish tank and my betta was gone. He was gone for about 3 days, and when I put food in on the 3rd day, the gravel in the far left corner of the tank started rumbleing, and my betta swam up to the top , ate, swam down to the corner, and buried himself again. What's he doing? Has anybody else had this sort of problem?

Aww, I hope not. He does that all the time. -_-

I'm not sure. Maybe? He's a VT, lol. He lives with 2 black moores and 1 pleco.

Hi there!

That's very odd behavior for a betta - especially since they're really social creatures. There could be several things going on. He could have parasites, in which case he could be burying himself because it feels good to him to have the rocks scratching, or he could be trying to dislodge them from his sides.

But I think it's a tank co-habitant issue. As far as being in the tank with the black moors and the pleco - you might want to try separating him from that tank. Part of the problem with keeping that whole combination of fish together is that while the moors like to have their water temps in the high 60's to very low 70's, the pleco and the betta like to have their temperatures up to 10 degrees higher. Not to mention the amount of waste the plecs and the moors create - it could be really hard on your betta.

What size tank are they all in together?

Unfortunately, to have 100% completely happy fish, you may end up having to separate all 3 different kinds of fish into their own environments.

One other thought I just had - how's the filter flow in that tank? Bettas hate current, and could possibly be just so frustrated with being blown all over the place that he buries himself so he can be still without having to work so hard..

The tank is around 15-20 gallons, not completly sure. Since the tanks abit crowded I have recently bought a very powerful filter, yes, I have noticed the filter blowing him around the tank. The other day I removed him from the tank for a while because the filter caught his tail when he got too close and shredded the end of it, about 1/2 an inch. Yes, I think that I might be moving the betta to his own bowl, but wont he get very sad without his big tank to swim in? Ususlly he swims with the goldfish very nicely and activly and zips around the tank, with the betta I have in a 2 gallon bowl just sits around.

I think he'll appreciate not having to deal with the filter moreso than having the space to roam around. It doesn't sound like he's enjoying the big tank with the powerful filter anyway, so I'd get him into that tank on his own and see how he does.

So, he'd be ok in a two-gallon bowl? With the black moores and pleco still in the tank?

moores=fine pleco=not fine... the pleco needs to go :( sorry but its just that a moore is a goldfish and goldfish secrete a poison that can kill other fish! also that pleco is gonna get huge... they need ATLEAST a 55G tank!!! PLUS plecos like the slime coat off of slow moving fish... your fish are doomed it they stay there :)wub: i like your avy vute hamster... short hair?? i have a white one)

So, should I find him a new home? (the pleco, I mean)

And nope, she's a long haired, but a female so she looks short haired. I have another like her, long haired female. But I do have a short haired male hamster. And a short haired dwarf. (obviosly the dwarf is short haired)

I'd say the first step is get mr. betta into that 2 gallon bowl.
Yep, that will be a fine size for him to be in. The majority of my 18 bettas are in 2.5G bowls and seem to really enjoy their lives.

As far as the pleco and the moors go, I'd have to agree - they should possibly be split up. You'll have to decide if you want to have a tropical or coldwater tank. If you go with coldwater, I'd take mr. plec to the fish store, or move him to another tank. Then, you would have the perfect setup for your little moors. Leave it a coldwater tank.

Okay, maybe Mr. Plec needs to go - but as I said I don't know much about tropicals, so someone who knows better will come along and let you know...

Good luck with your moves!

:p yes and to answer your other question 2Gs is great :) hehe actually its perfect!!!

:) the pleco will need to be rehomed... and you CAN keep 2 moores in that 20G BUT you have to keep the water extra clean... then in the DISTANT future you will have to rehome one or buy a new tank!

I've decided that 'Mr. Plec' (lol) has to go, because I love my moores, and my betta. The betta will be moved to a 2 gallon bowl, and the moores will stay in that tank. In the future, how big of a tank do you think they will need? I'm going to start saving, I have $124 spending money. (I'm only just turned 12, dont worry! lol) My friend is selling her 55 gallon for $300, so I told her to save it for me. Would that be big enough??? I already made an ad in the selling section, free pleco to good massachusetts home!
