whats the smallest size tank for one of these and how hardy are they?

I would say go no smaller then a 20 - 25G

they are very hardy, work hard at night cleaning and scrounging..

we kept a breeding pair in a 15gal - with 4 prestilla tetras and 2 small ladder loaches.

Terrotory wise they were fine - BUT you will nee a lot of extra filtration if you try something like that.

for a normal community tank 20 - 25 is a good size to start with

they are sort of hardy but they can stay in even a 5g. but that as the smallest size.
