Hey can any one tell me how do i breed red tail sharks???

any help would be much appreciated many thanks.

Hormones are usually used to produce spawning, they are usually bred in ponds. Breeding in a home tank is very very rare.

is there aneway i can replicate its natrual environment?

and to encourage spawning?
ans any idea how i tell their sex?

As already said it almost never happens in home fish tanks!

To be honest there is not alot of information about breeding them, this is about all I have found. This is copied from another site....

SEX: The female is less colorful and larger. The male is slimmer and has an elongated dorsal fin.
Breeding techniques: Difficult because of their aggressive behavior towards their own species. They are not bred often, although it has been in accomplished in peat filtered water with a pH of 6.8. Use dim light or no light. They spawn in rocky caves and fry hatch after 30 to 60 hours. The fry are free swimming after four days. Start feeding with small live foods. Their colors change from silvery to silvery brown, to brown and finally to black. The red tail develops after 7 to 10 weeks.
Breeding potential: 9. Breeding is very difficult and rare in captivity.

erm :shifty: we have 5 living together in our community tank which we was told was not possible aswel 4 of which have paired off into two pairs

so there is an odd one out but theres no aggression :shifty:

Maybe you should ask this in the correct place. You might get more answers there.

We may get more lava rock so theres more nooks and crannys like little caves if we do have any sucess seeing as we do have two pairs anyway then we will let you know

WOW thats cool!!!!! you never know I suppose its possible although most sites say its rare. The only other thing I have read is to have plenty of rocks for spawning and a heavily planted tank.

I wish you the best of luck!

This is actually quite common though tbh, more than one kept together for as long as years but then all of a sudden all hell breaks lose..... this is peoples experiences with these fish and very rare to actually have them inhabit for life with no problems at all, so cockyness really should be held back that little longer just incase they do start been aggressive towards one another or to other fish that are in your tank.

This isnt ment as nasty but please just dont automatically dismiss what many previous keepers of these fish say :)
