Breeding My Discus

So I managed to squeeze a couple more days off work to keep an eye on the fish, and it was all in vain. Almost none of the 300+ eggs were fertile

I don't believe it has anything to do with the water, as I have been overly careful on setting the TDS and pH values. So it was my man fish and his floppy middle fin

Oh, and yes! the pair in the community tank still have their eggs and look good! For all the messing about, and those two just casually get it on in fishy public. I have put my Pigeon Bloods back in the main tank, as I really need to cut them a break. I will try again when I get back from work toward the end of the month, and of course update if anything amazing happens in the main tank.

In the meantime, and before I go to work(Wednesday), I have a very unrelated, but interesting plan. I hope to have a go at it tomorrow, if I can find the parts I need. I hope it will be something new and pretty cool as far as tanks go

........ I'll post it here in aquarium pics if it works out as planned.

Otherwise, I am really sorry that I have failed to get the fry to make it through the phases, and I promise to make it happen! Back soon

Oh well, better luck next time you try. Probably a good idea to give them a break and start with them fresh again when you get back.

Looking forward to seeing what your project is...

.................. Just about sums it up! I just came in from work, to find all my fry gone! She must have eaten them again! I have no idea why, because she had been so relaxed with them for 2 days. I am so confused

Am going to try and seek some advice from my friend at the fish farm, see if it is something I am doing wrong.

 oh no. That's awful, thought this was it this time. So sorry, all your hard work and effort.
Really hoping you have little baby discus soon :)

Maybe they're just not ready yet. Maybe they need a few more months maturing before parenting becomes a feasible option. I'm sorry it didn't work out, again

You are very possibly right Caz, as they are very young, and I grew them really quickly. I got them at about 4 months old, and they were around 3 inches long. They are now just over a year and I would guess 7-8 inches. They have had a very good diet over the past 8 months, and have grown really fast. The number of eggs that the female has produced on her last 2 attempts have been 300+, which is about as good as it gets, and the male obviously has some good strong man jam(at times), but it is their parenting skills that are still to develop. They will get a 3 week break now, as they are back with their old tank mates, so maybe that will help. I will give them another go toward the end of this month and see. Main thing is that they are happy and healthy, and that certainly seems to be the case

Thanks.... I am on my way back home now. About 2 more hours and I'll be with my fish again! So I will pick this thead back up in a day or 2. :)

Looking forward to seeing how it goes this time - I really hope that after having had this break they will be more keen to look after their babies...

I might be a little late on the restart, as my girlfriend accidentally unplugged the filters on my main tank about a week ago!!!
