I was a little worried this morning, when I looked at the eggs, as they all looked like they were getting that opaque white colour, as if they were not fertilized........ However I think it was just the way the light was shining on them, mixed with my paranoia! Looking at them now(24 hours old) there are only 5 obvious duffs amid approximately 150 eggs. So I am slightly more optimistic now. Also compared to their earlier attempts, these eggs have been laid very tight together. If you check out the photos from the first time, those eggs were splattered all over, and I think man fish would have problems spreading his love butter over such a vast area, so they must be learning now........ less fumbling about under the sheets, and a bit more Mambo dancing skills on the sheets

I also think that they seem extra attentive to the eggs, so suspect they know they have a strong batch this time....... I hope.

Love Butter!! :fun:
Looks like some wrigglers are on the way!

I do hope so, even if only 50% of those eggs hatched it would be a good amount........ will know in 24 hours from now.

They are both certainly much more attentive to the eggs than they have been before, so I am hoping this is because they know it is a strong batch........ever the optimist

Took my girlfriend to the cinema tonight as she wanted to watch the new Twilight movie...... so I watched 2 hours of people turning into Vampire and Werewolves...... Then I got home and I watched 2 hours of my eggs turning into little wrigglers!

Now it might not be a Hollywood blockbuster, but it was way more interesting

So now I have a good batch of little fellas. I'd guess there are around 50-70

They should become free swimming in about 3 days from now. Fingers are still staying crossed for now.

Woo! :hyper: How long are you going to leave the guard on for?

Caz, I will leave it on and just let the wee guys free swim out through the holes as I hope by then that the parents bond with the fry will be so strong that it will stop any urge they may have to eat them. The bottom of the cone has a little catch rim, so that any wrigglers that fall off will just rest on that and stay safe until they can swim away. The parents seem to be doing everything right just now, and constantly fanning the little guys. They even take it in turns to eat, when I feed them, with one on constant watch. All good signs.

Looks like the little guys are getting ready to fly the nest very soon. A few of them had a go at swimming today, but looks like they needed some water wings, as the it was more sink than swim

There are about 40 of them left now, as I did lose a few in the first few hours of hatching, but the ones left look super strong. Mum and Dad are waiting patiently beside their brood, ready for the kids to hitch a shoulder ride.

Everything is looking good. I hope tomorrow I will have some pics of the wee chaps riding Dads back!
biggrin.gif

The kids are starting to run riot in the tank now....swimming around on their little mini adventures, checking out their new world. Mum and Dad are getting annoyed trying to keep their little brats together
laugh.gif
The kids run off all over the place, then they get gathered up and put back in one spot, only for them to run off again. They haven't started feeding of the parents skin yet...... I think they are having too much fun! Am sure they will soon be tired and hungry, and need their dinner.

Still about 40 of them, and they look very healthy........ happy days!

Thank you. You know they are still quite vulnerable just now, but if they make it through the next 5 days then it should all be plain sailing. It's a small number of fry, as 100+ would be more like it, but they do look strong, just depends on the parents now. If the parents get bored they might still eat them. It's been fun, but a little stressful at times..... so satisfying though

They're on a strictly blood worm only diet just now, as they don't fowl the water and are easy to vacuum up

I am hoping that if they were going to scoff the fry they would already have done it........so fingers crossed

.....will keep you updated!
