Ive recently put bogwood into a new jewel vision 260litre tank. Im currently cycling it in preparation for the introduction of some Discus fish.
But about 2 days after i put the bogwood into the tank some strange misty kindof slime appeared over the bog wood.
If anybody could shed some light on what it is, that would be great. If its dangerous or not, will it dissappear?
Any Info will be greatly appreciated.
Im clueless to be honest lol

Fairly common on new bogwood. It is a fungus that should in time go and seems to be harmless to fish. You should really boil the wood for 15 minutes before use as this would prevent the fugus from growing.

I didnt soak it or boil it before i put it in the tank. Just a quick rinse. The pieces are soo big i cant even fit them in the sink lol.
Might have to use the bath lol.
It did turn the water a very slight brown colour lol but that is slowly disappearing. I put the logs in the tank because i was told they have good water softening properties.
Cheers for the info, its put my mind at ease somewhat.

The exact same thing happened to me! Except I soaked mine for about 24 hours in the bathtub. The white/clear stuff didn't seem to harm anything and the fish even ate it. Not sure how good that was for them, but nothing negative happened as a result.
