Anyone a fan of board games etc?

I'm currently playing:

Dominion
Elder Sign
Carcasonne
Ticket to Ride
Zombie Dice!

Oh and a blast from the past, hubby found his old Ghost Castle in his parent's attic, still pristine condition - classic game when we were children! Now we can play it with our kids!

As a child I loved playing board games, these days it seems that kids just play on computers so board games dont get a look in!!

One game I used to love playing was pass the pigs, simple but fun

Ticket to ride is a personal favorite. There was also a ' cave man ' game we would play weekly. Im a big fan of cards. I'm with livewire re the kids and computer games.

To be fair, I played more computer games as a child and more board games as an adult!

Settlers of Catan, Carcasonne, Diplomacy.

Card game wise, Groo and Munchkin.

Settlers is a firm favourite of ours - played the basic game loads but our friends have all the expansions we've only played them once or twice.

Mahjong is another game we've been saying for years we want to learn, anyone played it?

I won two games of Dominion in a row against hubby tonight - chuffed as I lost the last 6 out of 7 games! :p
It's a really good strategic card game, I recommend it if anybody is looking for a new game to try.

Playing two new games - Tsuro and Pandemic.

Hubby is a fan of watching episodes of TableTop on Youtube (starring Wil Wheaton, for those who remember Star Trek Next Gen) and he likes to buy the games they recommend on there.

My 6yo is now learning to play Tsuro, chess and Mastermind with us :)

I'm looking with interest at the game of thrones game. Anyone actually seen it?

Yes we've got it but have yet to play it!  Still struggling through the rule book!

Here's a pic of Pandemic:

Co-operative game for 2 or more players.  The idea is to cure diseases, stop infections from spreading into outbreaks and save the world before epidemics turn into a pandemic.

Tsuro - 2-8 players, the idea being to make a path and be the last player remaining on the board.  Nice quick game.

Always played family games, we were that kinda family :) But it was especially fun on holidays with my cousins and family as well or at Christmas etc. We keep getting new games but rarely play new ones and stick to the better known!

Grew up absolutely loving to play 'go fish' (cards) and when the family got together (15 grandkids round the table and helpers for the little uns) we would play 'Chase the Ace', 'Beggar my neighbour', 'snap', 'eights' and some card game that had something to do with chickens... or a rooster... I remember the hilarity but not the game!! It might possibly have been made up though...

Then we moved on to our old favourites, Yahtzee (sp?) and Frustration and we do have a copy of Cluedo knocking about somewhere still.

I love playing really long games like Risk but no one will play with me :( Though (especially at Christmas) I can occasionally convince people to play Monopoly with me! Usually just the once and they remember why they always say no :p our last game lasted 4.5 hours and we all ended up so drunk we could barely play anyway!

Currently, our favourite game is Rummikub! Its kind of a cross between a card game and scrabble lol. It involves counters/tiles with numbers 1-13 in 4 colour sets and we all start with 14 tiles (keeping them hidden) and the aim is to get rid of all your tiles first, got to put out a total of 30 to start in runs or colour sets (10,11,12 in red or 10,10,10 in red, black and yellow), if you cant go out, you pick up a tile, second go (after putting out first lot) you can add to other peoples runs as well.

Its a great game because it can be frustrating if you cant go out (have been an entire game without ever managing to start once!), its simple but not boring and its fast paced enough that you can just keep playing again and again and again.

I'm pretty big on board games.  If you haven't already, set up an account on boardgamegeek.com

My name is also elrohirthehasty there.  If you look me up you can look at my collection.  Let's see, maybe I'll link it.

...with my ratings, plus a few with comments.  Feel free to ask me about any anytime.  Just respond here, or PM me here or there!

Edit: Don't judge the number of "plays" column.  I only recently started logging that!
