Blood Worm In Gill - Problem?

I'm always a little leery of using the brute force method to solve a problem. If something is caught in a fish's gills then trying to remove it with tweezers could rip the delicate gills. After all a human can exert quite a bit more force than, say another Cory.

As I mentioned in my first post, if the fish is not in distress, then leave it alone (or isolate it from the others) and it should be able to solve the problem itself. Even the act of capturing it and restraining it can cause damage.

If others disagree with me, please feel free to correct me. I'm never too old to learn.

Cheers.

I had a cory what had some debree caught in its gill quit a large piece too i was tempted to take the tweezers to it but i never and it came out of its own accord

Editted read the full posts lol

This happens all the time to my lineatus killies when they feed. It only happens with bloodworms and nothing bad seems to happen. It just eventually comes out.

I have not had it happen, but I would not engage unless I saw the fish was in distress and very bad distress at that.

Or if I was told to by a very experienced Cory keeper. Then I might look for a second opinion. :)

Happy to say they are all still fine and whizzing all over the tank playing in the flow. At least if it happens again we wont panic so much. Thanks everyone for your advice :thanks:
