I have always seen websites and people that are talking about Betta's and now I'm thinking of getting one.... I just want to know everything I need to before I get the Betta so that it doesn't die on me.. So if anyone can give me any tips, pointer, anything then please tell me so that I can be 100% ready to obtain a Betta :D

Chris you've reviewed everything including many websites and you've borrowed many books from libraries of Bettas, your ready.

:hi: to the forum. Introduce yourself in the newbie section.

I take it you have no fish right now and are looking for an easy-to-keep starter fish.

As long as you give a betta the proper care it will live for a long time.

There's probably a pinned article in the betta section if you check it out.

Basics, IMO:
Get at least a 1 gallon tank b/c they don't like it in bowls (I've experimented). This should have still or slow moving water, so you shouldn't get power filters, even if you could find one for such a tank. Therefore you should get an undergravel filter or a sponge filter for biological filtration and to keep the water quality stable.
Cleaning supplies, i.e. small siphon and/or turkey baster.
Food: hikari pellets and, preferably, some frozen food as an occassional treat and to vary the diet.
Some emergency meds: bettafix and some fungicide.

I think that's all. HTH

Chris,

Welcome! I plan on getting a betta also after I return home from vacation for my 2 gallon tank.

Good luck to you with yours!

I did a lot of fishkeeping about 10-15 years ago, but this will be my first experience with bettas. I'm sure I'll have more questions to ask after I find my fishie!

my beta is like the turminator. 8) The top of the tank is his domain :) he will acasionaly let some friends up to feed on the crisp flakes but other than that only the angel fish and guaramis can be with him :) He doesn't like 1 of the barbs. It nipas at him alot so he "nips" at it also

I found my bettas always enjoyed live brine shrimp. Good luck with yours!
