Betta Vs Guppies, Which Would You Choose?

I personally don't feel a 5g tank is big enough for anything but shrimp, a 10g would be much more suitable for both options... but if I had to pick, I'd have to say Betta.

I can't get shrimp in New Zealand as they are a hazard to our native aquaria. (most inverts are illegal to import )

I've always agreed with this too. I t5hinl 5 gallons of water is really really tiny.
