Betta May Have Fungus

Hi, I just noticed the other day (could have been there longer) that my betta has a sorta grayish or pale small patch on one side of his face. I can't really get a great look at it.. but it doesnt seem to be fuzzy (yet) I'm thinking it may be Columnaris. He's been acting fine, swimming around, eating normal, flaring and he even made a bubble nest a day ago. I don't know what I should do to treat him since I'm not completely sure what it is yet. In the tank with him I have a mystery snail and live plants. What should I do about this?

Just to be clear (and not get yelled at.. lol), My betta is in a 5 gallon filtered tank and I do weekly 40% water changes per week and yes.. I do treat the water and make sure it is the same temp as the water in the tank.

I tried getting a pic of it but it's like impossible. He always moves at the last moment or is always facing the other way. My water stats are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 5 nitrates.

I guess I can try again to get a pic.

What do you feed your betta? Is he over fed at times i.e. food still floating about, even after he has finished eating.

I know pH levels aren't that important to many but do you know the pH level?

Sorry about the Q's bt they might help people give you an answer.

I wouldn't worry about the plants or the snail x

nitrate shouldn't be at 5, should be down at 0

sorry to disagree hun, but nitrAtes can go upto 20 and very little harm canbe done to the fish. nitrItes can cause nerve damage, and Ammonia causes gill damage, and although NitrAtes can be harmful at very very high concentrations( 50+++) keeping it at 0 it not practical or harmful. A Betta in a 48L tank takes 10 days to get to 0.25ppm. ( at least it does in my tank. sorry, not being argumentative but nitrates are the safer ones

Beth- No problem answering questions. I feed him Aqueon betta food pellets and I only give him a tiny bit at a time. I also feed him freeze dried blood worms. There's hardly any food remaining in the tank and if a pellet does fall to the gravel my snail gets at it My ph is 7.2, that's actually what comes out of my tap water.
