hi there i have had my betta for 2 weeks now in my community tank but this morning he was under a rock with no fins left at all, obviously one of the other fish has an appetite for fins ive put him in my hospital tank which i bought last week (lucky) he seems ok considering but dosnt look very attractive.
will he be ok? will his fins grow back? any help would be appreciated

Sorry to hear that your having a problem :( But yes aslog as the fish is isolated - then they will heal fine!
Dont forget to do regualr water changes - there is aproduct that speeds it up - but for the life of me i cant remember what its called!!

Oh and what other fish do you have in your community tank? Just out of interest as it may be one thats not suited.

hi thanks for the quick reply my community tank has 4 angelfish 1 3 spot gourami 2 swordtails and 2 killfish
they all have been happy together for a while now just dont know why fighty has been picked on

the angels gouramis and the sword will do this to a betta, not sure on the killifish though as not to hot on info on them, when hes better dont put him back in there cause it will happen again within hours. get some antibacterial and treat his tank this will help him heal without getting any infections. healing should take about 8 - 10 weeks to get him back to normal.

Yes Angels can be pretty nasty, despite their nice name!

Betta's can live in quite small tanks, so maybe it's best you buy him a small tank of his own once his fins are better?

hi
thanks for the advice will keep him in his own tank now cant risk putting him back with the others.
thanks again

Two things will help speed up his healing.....

1) aquarium salt (1 rounded tablespoon per 5 gallons); and

2) Bettafix Remedy (dosage on bottle)

do you have to use aquarium salt or will normal table salt work?sure ive read it somewhere

NO!!! Do not use table salt. You must use aquarium salt. I'm glad you asked, if you were unsure.

Edit: I should've added why you should not use table salt (sorry, I'm at work and was in a rush).

Table salt most often contains additives like iodine and calcium silicate. You want pure sodium chloride. Kosher salt and rock salt work, but not (usually) regular table salt.

thanks again will have a trip down the shops and get some
